Quoted: .300 Win Mag was unpleasant for me too. Very sharp and brutal recoil. That's the most powerful rifle I've shot - I'm curious if more powerful rifles like a .375 H&H or .458 Win are much worse, or if the slower bullet makes for a different recoil cycle than the sharp kick on the 7mm and 30 cal mags. View Quote It was the most powerful for me aswell. I didnt think it could be bad at all then he opened the box up and pulled out a round but I was curious |

Maybe I'm recoil sensitive but I can't shoot my Mossberg 12 gauge with full house slugs for too long nor my M1 Garand for more than about 50 rounds before I feel fatigued.
I also found my Colt Delta with Doubletap ammo to just not be enjoyable to shoot at the range. As I get older I find I just want to enjoy shooting and not be beat up. No +p 45 for me. Standard pressure 45 is about my limit for enjoyable shooting anymore and I won't go beyond that. And .308 for rifles is about as far as I want to go to still enjoy the session as well. |

I'll second the earlier poster on the 458 Winchester Magnum. Even in a 10 pound bolt gun it was a thump. I was shooting it from upright crossed sticks and that made it a bit more tolerable, but I was pretty much done with it after 10 rounds.

But, I shot a Featherweight Winchester Model 70 in 270 that would scramble your brains and give you another eyebrow. I advised my brother to sell it and he agreed. And recoil rarely bothers me. |

M82A1 with the large brake.
Damn thing jumps up off of the table when you shoot it. Follow up shots are completely impossible. |

Kel-Tec P40. Long trigger pull, lightweight tiny pistol and the snappy . 40S&W do not a good combination make...

Ruger No. 1 in 458 Lott
The stock design on the No. 1 makes them painful to shoot in large calibers. I had a No. 1 in 45-70 that was pretty nasty as well. And I love big bore guns. I had a CZ 550 in .458 Lott and the No. 1 kicked way worse. |

|
Quoted: Mosin nagant SBR View Quote Yes, that would be poor. It's fine with the long barrel but I've head even the 20" carbine versions are nasty to shoot. I imagine a 10-12" .308 would be ugly too. And if you had a break on it, you would not have to worry about a crowded range for very long. |

Friend of mine has a 340PD. That thing is awful with .357. I very smartly purchased a Ruger LCR in .357 probably 7 years ago. Didn’t even keep it a year, sucked with .357. Accurate but unpleasant.
I avoid things that will give me a flinch. Anything with high power rounds in lightweight packages just seems like suffering waiting to happen. I do want one of those .30 carbine Ruger Blackhawks though. |

I think the blast is the issue with the .30 carbine, as muzzle energy is about .357 range. But lots of unburned powder from a pistol length barrel so a fireworks show. |

Duration of the recoil impulse of the 458 with the heavier bullets feels noticeably harder. Never compared the two side by side. Shot half a box of the damn things and it felt like I'd been shooting 12 ga slugs in a 5 pound shotgun all day. Just an unpleasant gun to shoot more than a round or two. I've shot 375 H&H, 378 Weatherby as well and while solid, not unpleasant by comparison. |

Recoil and pain Smith 329. Didn't even shoot anything real hot. My mistake was not asking them to swap out the wood grips. Even a 44spl popped the hand pretty good.
Blast is just about any 50bmg. Shot a lot of loud blasty stuff but nothing comes close to the 50's that I've been around. |
|
Quoted: S&W 340PD with a single .357 mag round is a real “welcome to Ouchville” event that will leave an impression in your memory (not to mention in your hand). View Quote Thats why the 340 is the single best pistol to buy used - almost all are sold with a heavy discount, fired less then 50 times |

Probably the 340 as with just a stubby grip it's more likely I'd think to jump around in your hand and rip things up. And all either needs to be great guns is to swap the 3 for a 6. |

I call it the double wrist snapper challenge. In your left hand is my .357 360PD loaded with Underwood, and in your right hand is my .454 Ruger Alaskan loaded with, you guessed it, Underwood.
Fire both at the same time and hit a 12" steel plate with both shots at 50 yards and you win a $20 gift card to Red Lobster. |

I had a hard time keeping my buddies .454 Ruger from going for a fly holding it with two hands and gloves! But it wasn't too bad to fire. The 3 series of .357 J frames are supposed to be terrible. Almost better off throwing it to an attacker and hoping he tries to shoot it at you. |

View Quote I was a little jaded I couldn’t afford a M82A1 or Serbu BFG50A when I bought my 50 (after it was clear Biden was going to win). I really wanted a semi, but the 50 budget wasn’t going to mature for another year or two and I didn’t want them banning 50s altogether before I could even get a basic one. So I got a bolt action. After firing my bolt-action 50 with the big brake the first time I had zero regerts I’d only spent 1/3rd as much. There’s about a 2-3 second sensory recovery time after touching one off. The first second or so is just realizing you’re still alive in one piece, then you blink a few times and begin to feel your sinuses again. No way mag dumping one is healthy for a human being. |

I loved my Taurus 44 magnum. Don’t know what model. 6” vent rib, target sights, ported. Was really fun. 44 spl had no recoil. 180, a bit. 240, getting uncomfortable. Then found T’s ammo from Fort Worth maybe? They sold 325 and 350 grain loads. Painful and the shockwave indoors literally jostled your guts.

3" magnum 00 buckshot out of my Winchester 1300 Defender. 12 00 pellets is punishing. It makes regular 00 or birdshot loads feel ridiculously light.

My S&W 342 with 38+P loads is more vicious than my Super Redhawk in 454 Casul. The original wood grips allowed the frame metal to make direct contact with your palm. When practicing I could never get more than about 25 rounds before I had to quit.
Also, I got a Browning BLR in 358 Winchester, it's was way worse than a 300 Win Mag. |

I was going to say a mix of either my friends 44 mag revolver (idk what kind but it had a very short barrel) or a full size 454... but then I remember when shooting a 300 Weatherby and after 1 shot said "nope"

.45-70 Contender with 350 gr. factory ammo...........sonofabitch HURT!!

P64 sucks because of the grip frame design and being small + blowback. I’ve shot about all the Makarov variants & it’s notably the worst.
