I love this little rifle, but hate the short sight radius.

So after much research about scope mounts and not finding anything I liked, I found this.
The Special Interest Arms mount is exactly what I was looking for.

I got the mount in the mail Monday and "set" it together for some pictures before I send it to the 'smith to be drilled and tapped.

Rifle: Ishapore 2A1 Gibbs Carbine 7.62 X 51
Mount: SIA Enfield No 1/2A
Scope: For now, Weaver K2.5

I haven't decided if I will leave it like this or do a few more mods to make it lighter and leaner. I like this look though.

Range report at a later date.

Could you shoot a couple of close-ups of the setup?

I have a standard Ishy 2A. That mount has some potential.

I'm out the door to work right now, but I'll take some more pics tonight.

Meanwhile, here's the thread where I first read about these mounts. There are some close ups of the No 4 mount there.

Pics as promised:

Ejection port side:

Front of the mount clears the handguard:

Rear of mount on the charger bridge:

Looking down at the mounting holes:

Sights can be seen through the U channel:

What comes in the box: Mount. Screws. Instructions.

Hope that helps. Richard says that he tried to copy Weavers mounting holes so if you are replacing a TO-1 mount it will fit with no fuss.

It looks very good to me. I can't wait to get it mounted and take it deer hunting!

How wide is the rear screw compared to the width of the tang that it would go through?

The thinnest point of the charger bridge is 6.52 mm.

The OD of the screw threads are 3.45 mm

The depth of the steel where it would be d&t'd is 6 mm

Looks like plenty of steel to me.

Thanks for the pics. D&T the receiver is a deal breaker in my case.

I hear ya. I have two other 2A1's that I don't want to D&T as well. This one is already "sporterized" by Gibbs and I want to hunt with it.

I have been unimpressed with the reviews for the no drill mounts, and they all require you to cut a groove in the stock for the band that wraps the receiver. To me altering the stock isn't really any better than drilling the receiver.

I think I'll try this on my other ones.

Good luck,

MJ
