Anyone heard anything on this? I'm guessing that it would be revealed at the Shot Show.

Although the PS90 is looking good!

Why?
What good would a pistol round do in a bolt gun.
Its a free country, and people can make and buy whatever the heck they want, but the way people are starting to go on about this round you'd think it did your grocery shopping, washed your clothes, and did your taxes as well...

I'm all for "the more firearms options the better", but I think that the 5.7 is pretty pointless out of anything but full-auto (subgun), and that includes the SP-90.  The whole point of the 5.7 is a high volume of fire on target with high controlability.

Wouldn't a 22 hornet or one of those other 22 thingies be about the same thing?

Well ya a 5.7 out of a rifle isnt all that impressive but a 5.7 out of a handgun is VERY impressive.  3000+ FPS out of a handgun with the controlablity of a 9mm or less?  Im saving up for a 5.7 as we speak.

There is the Cooper M21 bolt action rifle in 5.7x28, and the soon to be released FN 5.7 Patrol Bolt Rifle,(based on winchester Model 70 super short action ) that uses 10/20 shot five seven pistol magazines.

The Cooper is availible right now and there is several choices in barrel lenths...not cheap however.
The FN will most likely make its debut at the Shot Show, and availible later into 2006.

Take a look at those "new" 20 caliber rounds.  The 20 VarTarg, 20 Tactical, 204 Ruger.  All perform very well.

Kind of pointless, since you have everything you could want from 5.7 in .223

Remember, 5.7FN is basically designed to provide .223-like AP performance in in traditional handgun  (a/o pistolfied-rifle, ala AR pistol) and SMG platforms...

When you have a fullsize rifle, why not just shoot .223?

Unless, you're going for the same effect as the .357 or 9mm rifle (eg shoot the same ammo thru your rifle as your pistol)

I wonder how a suppressed bolt action 5.7 compares to a 5.56? I want a 57 USG but am holding off til the ammo situation works itself out. I wish Nato would adopt it as a standard round or another major manufacturer (Glock/S&W/Sig/Beretta) came out with something chsmbered in it.

.221 Fireball makes a lot more sense in a bolt action.

It's a round designed for a PDW. I think alot of people are having trouble grasping the concept of this round. It is not a wonder round, and it is not pointless.

It was designed to be used in SMG's where a pistol caliber would lose it's effectiveness against body armor, and not have the bulk and recoil of a full rifle round under high cyclic firing.

Thinking it can replace a 5.56 weapon is retarded.
Thinking it's a glorified rimfire is retarded.

I see no point in using it in a bolt action rifle myself. I actually see no point to it outside of PDW use, so I'd consider this rifle a varmint gun. I hope FN prices it accordingly as well. I'd buy a P90, but chances are that's the only firearm I'll possibly ever have chambered in 5.7x28.

You're making my CZ-52 blush.  It's probably closer to 1600 but that is nothing to shake a stick at.

As I understand, it will use a 5.7 magazine. A good thing to go with the 5.7 and to give added effective range for the round.
I know it wasn't designed to replace the 5.56 and obviously won't. It's not a glorified rimfire either. Sure, there are plenty of great calibers for short range varminting or limited range target shooting. So, what's wrong with another? especially when it uses what you may carry and uses the same mags?
