I am always looking to buy the best possible weapon to fit each niche, with the limited funds I have available at the time.

What would you buy/own, if you had basically unlimited funds, but had to keep your entire arsenal down to, say, eight or fewer weapons?

I think I would probably go with the following:

Suppressed Ruger MKII .22
Glock 36
HK USP .45
HK MP5SD6 (I said unlimited funds, remember)
Springfield Armory M1A Scout w/ Aimpoint
KAC SR-15 M4
Remington 700 .308 Custom
Benelli M1 Entry model (18" barrel)

What say you?

Mine would probably be along the lines of:

Good accurate bolt gun, black, with bipod and nice scope.  Probably .308 for commonality of ammo.

Good accurate, RELIABLE carbine.  Like my M4gery.  At least 6 magazines and plenty of spare ammo.  (and a LULA to help loading)

Accurate RELIABLE pistol, either 1911 or CZ75.  At least 10 mags for the 1911 and 5 hicaps for the CZ.

That's the basic arsenal.  Basically, those are things that would be useful to me, instead of just 'neat to have.'

Around 20 lbs of Cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine.

Like the saying goes: Don't show up to a gun fight with only a knife, Or why show up at all when you can plan ahead.

Depends on the purpose of the "arsenal."  If, as the original poster put it, "....to fit every niche...,"  I would consider it an "array" of firearms.  To me an arsenal has more to do with combat.  That said, I have tailored my arsenal  (I'm not a hunter, collector, avid "hobbyist" or competitive target shooter - my target shooting is just to keep my eye and hand together, not the ultra fine edge) to fit as many purposes as possible with as few guns as possible.

I have an M1a, a few .45 acp pistols, a couple of .380's, and a .45 derringer.  For lightweight carry  (note, FL), and low risk environments, I have a couple of Kel-Tec .380's.  For most carry, I use a compact .45 (S&W 945).  In a SHTF situation, the true answer to the initial premise, and the time I would need an "arsenal" I would have my M1A, a .45, the .45 Derringer (commonality of ammo) and one or two knives, one of which would be a folder.  One of the reasons I went from an AR15 to an M1A is that one rifle would fit a couple of needs.  In a difficult situation, no time to say "Let's see, the bolt rifle would be better here, so I'll get that out.  No, these are closer and more, better to have a semi-auto.  Oh, oh, they have some cover, dunno if that caliber is adequate. "  Hence the conflict with definitions.

I have the perfect small aresenal right here in my place! A Fulton Armory M-14, a CMP Garand accurized by Hook Boutin, and a Springfield Armory "milspec" M1911. After running through almost all the popular designs and calibers I setttled on these because they challenge my marksmanship (with thier weight, and recoil) and yet are easy, (comfortable, great sites) to shoot. As soon as I run out of 30-06 I will get the Garand rebarreled for 7.62, so the logistics get simpler.

My personal cache of arms:

1. Rock River Arms AR-15 16" 5.56 -- 10 mags
2. Mossberg 590 12 gauge
3. Glock 36 .45 ACP - 5 mags
4. 1903A3 Springfield .30-06
5. Smith and Wesson Model 22A .22lr

And to feed those weapons:

1. 2,000 rounds of 55-grain 5.56
2. 2,000 rounds of 62-grain SS109
3. 300 rounds 12 gauge buckshoot (00)
4. 400 rounds 12 gauge birdshot (#7)
5. 2,000 rounds 230-grain .45 ACP
6. 500 rounds 150-grain .30-06
7. 5,000 rounds .22lr

Those weapons and ammo are the SHTF stash.

I'm thinking of replacing the Glock 36 with a Springfield 1911 and about a dozen magazines for it.

Shotgun:  Mossberg 590SP. ( I like pumps)

Rifle:  M4gery of your choice and a full length SPR.

Long Range Rifle:  Remington 700 PSS in 308

That's about it.

HK Mark 23 w/ supressor

I'm still trying to decide which AR15 I'd grab........guess it depends on which State I happen to be in......

From a realistic perspective, I'd be happy with one of my AR15's and a Sig P228 with plenty of MecGar 15rnd flush fit high caps. And thats it if I plan on being on foot. An FAL is nice to have as well for long range or a long range bolt gun. My 10/22 is also a serious consideration for foraging - but not for military use - though a suppressed 10/22 would lend itself to possibilities.

In a dream world, I would have the following:

- Colt M4 with M203, Aimpoint ML2 or EoTech, Knights or Arms rail system, Back up iron sights, plenty of good mags and good ammo.

- Quality handgun as backup primarily - for me the Sig Sauer P228 with plenty of good mags and ammo.

- Remington Model 700 PSS or other high quality dedicated bolt action rifle

- Barrett M99,M95 , McMillan, or Robar .50BMG

- Colt M4 with Shrike System installed (auto) or the FN MFG SOCOM version of the M249

- FN/FAL from Belgian factory

- Remington 870 with pistol grip Speedfeed stock, Trijicon Reflex, and 14" improved cylinder choke barrel (USCG issue btw)

- M240B with unlimited ammunition and extra barrels and parts

- 20MM Finnish Lahti for REAL damage

- M3M .50BMG machine gun ( potential replacement to the M2 .50)

- HK MP-5SD

- Suppressed Ruger MKII

............Do I have to move around with all of this?........

You don't say if you want to be a collector or a recreational shooter or a hunter or a freedome fighter.  Based on your choice of the word "arsenal", I'm going to assume the latter.  Incidentally, I am trying to wittle my collection down as well.

1. AR15.  Buy lots of uppers, but the most important to me would be a lightweight 16" barrel with A1 sights.
2. Glock 17.  Good all-around pistol, always ready to go.  Get several highcaps and a light.
3. Glock 26.  For concealed carry and/or backup to the G17.  Use the spare G17 mags as spares.
4. Ruger MKII.  Everyone needs a good 22lr pistol. If you can get it integrally supressed so much the better.
5. Ruger 10/22.  See above for MKII.
6. Remington 870.  Multiple barrels.  Long one for hunting game, short one for hunting men.

Now, 7&8 would be a tossup, pick one combo of either:

(1) S&W 686 plus w/ 4" barrel & a Marlin 1894c in .357
-OR-
(2) 1911 variant (fullsize) & a Marlin Camp Carbine in .45

You could always go with the 1911 with carbine kit, freeing up #8 for a bolt gun in .308.

I could get by with:

AR Carbine
FN FAL
2 identical 1911s

- DSA SA58 Carbine with Muzzle Break and TA11 ACOG

- Colt Python 6" Satin Stainless Steel
- Wilson Combat SDS 4" .45 ACP 1911, Satin Hard-Chromed

Hmmm decisions, decisions....

1.  Ar Commando select fire w/ can (for up close and personal.)

2.  M1A/M-14 w/ can (to let the neighbors know your still kickin.)

3.  Barrett semi auto .50 BMG (when you want to reach out and touch someone.)

4.  Benelli M3 Super 90 (for those pesky people who drop by unexpected.)

5.  H&K mk 23 w/ can (so the Johnson's don't know you just fragged their cat.)

6.  Glock 27 (what they don't know will hurt them)

And all the optics, lights and mags you can cram on em, because we all know that it's not the gun, ITS ALL THE DAMN ACCESSORIES THAT DRAIN THE BANK ACCOUNT.

I've just started filling the armory and have a ways to go yet.  My initial philosophy is ammo oriented- that is, in a SHTF scenario what would be available?  I'm gearing weapons toward:

.22LR ( I have a bolt action, a 10/22, and a P22)

5.56/.223 (My AR, and I'm thinking of adding another one when I can)

7.62/.308 (An FAL and a decent scoped bolt gun)

9mm (A couple pistols, maybe add a carbine)

A 12 gauge shotgun would round this out nicely.

These are the "essentials" on my list.  Who knows where it will actually end?

Well, here's the OFFICIAL DOGGONIT CERTIFIED list:

1x Silenced Ruger 77/22 w/ scope
1x Glock 17
1x SIG P226
1x SIG GSR 1911
1x Remington M24 SWS complete kit
1x HK MP7 w/ Z-dot sight w/ silencer
1x HK UMP 45 w/ EoTech 551 with silencer
A few ten thousand rounds of 9mm, .22LR, 4.7x28mm, and .45ACP
A few thousand rounds of .308 Federal Match ammo

That's all... HK sub and smaller one for CQB, Ruger for squirrels, Remy for those long range targets, and LOTS OF HANDGUNS (if I could have one weapon it would have to be a handgun! 9mm!)

[edited] the reason for two would be in case one breaks.. replace the parts or switch guns and also for having another pair handy for anyone that I might need to arm.
