Is it possable to make or change and M1A so it will chamber 30.06. Or maybe modify a garand to except detachable mags? I asked SA and they just blew me off and said no. I already have a Garand, but I don't like the scope mounting options. Anyone know of a Semi-auto 30.06 with a 20 or 30rnd mag capacity? Besides the BAR which is far out of my price range and I can't have a Class 3 cause the CLEO won't sign. Just a thought for the next rifle to the collection. Any info welcome.

There used to be a company that advertised in the SGN, converting M1s to take M14 mags, but it's been awhile since I've seen the ad.

Oh well, was just a thought I had. Damn BARs' are a little out of my price range and I hear the weigh quite a bit. I heard they make a semi auto version of the BAR anyone know the going rate for one? That and where I could find mags for it? Thanks

The last I heard, they're in the $2500 range for a closed-bolt BAR.  That was when they first came out, but I haven' priced them since.  No idea where you can find mags.

The FN-49, predecessor of the FAL, was chambered in 30-06 with a detachable 10 rounder.  They run around $600 when you can find them.  I have built a few custom Mausers in 30-06 with fixed BAR mags though, but it's a bolt action.
