I'm looking at getting a .308 rifle to supplement my firearms.

I simply can't decide between-

L1A1/knockoff
G-3/knockoff
M1A/M-14 and clones.

Now, I am not one for "brand names", but I don't want one made by Tyco either.

Now money is a deciding factor in this, I don't have much.

I am looking for something that will shoot 6 MOA with a 9x scope at 300 yards.

I am also looking for something that will feed reliably, parts are easy to obtain/install, and hi-cap magazines are readily available/cheap.

Weight is also a concern, I'd like something that doesn't feel like 50lbs after 5 miles in the woods.

I plan on doing long range target shooting and hunting (300-500 yrds) but would also like something that relatively short (18" or less barrel).

Given all this criteria, is there anyone here with some experience with one or all of these rifles? Anyone have any pros-cons about the above?

Also, does anyone have any sources that I can check out for prices/kits/low cost rifles?

I am looking at spending under $1000 (the further below, the better).

Thanks,

DSA FAL

DSA or Springfield Armory. Parts guns are risky, they may not work.

You might also check out a Chinese M1A. I have one and love it, plus it is a lot cheaper that the DSA FAL or Springfield M1A.

get the fal. it's to bad i can't "oomp" you up to $1200.00. the M1A and AR-10 are worth the money.

Get a Springfield M1A.

Trust me, you'll be happy you did.

A DSA FAL will cost just as much, but the better rifle is the M1A IMO.

At www.enterprise you can buy an Imbel rifle (FAL clone) for $799. Made with quality parts and almost the same cost as building it yourself.
