I've looked through a ton of catalogs and the majority of times I see adds for .50 cal ammo they say it was made in '88 as a selling point.  What is so special about that year.

Do the catalogs say where it was made??  Common South African from 1988 is OK but Berdan primed, Olin/WCC from '88 is good stuff, there's lots of different .50 BMG milsurp out there.  Have any headstamp info?
