A scout-rifle type mount. Perhaps replacing the top wood just forward of the receiver.

OK, then if that's what you want, try
www.fulton-armory.com IIRC, they make the alteration, and/or can steer you to the vendor of the mount.
As far as the scope goes, both Leupold and Burris make them, and both are good companies.
I recommend that whatever scope you buy, that you get a heavy plex reticule, as it is more useful under a wider range of shooting conditions than a thinner reticule.
Buy good rings of the correct height; the widest bell of the scout Scope should just clear. You want that scope as close to the boreline as possible. Selection of the correct height mount is critical. Also make sure that the mounts have some type of quick-release lever, or at least levers with arms instead of screw heads attaching the mount to the rail. If the scope goes bad, your iron backup sights will come in mighty handy.
Personally, I would turn down the iron sight till it bottomed out, so as to get the scope closer to the bore. Of course, I would memorize the number of clicks needed to return to my desired zero range. YMMV.
Natchez Shooters Supply (
www.natchezss.com) often sells re-furbed Burris Scout scopes at
significant savings, and they come with full factory warranty. Good luck!
