From what I have seen typically they do use Anschutzs.

Fortner straight pull action with no sights. $1795.

Sights run up to another $325.

Yeah, Anschutz definitely leads the pack, with Kriko and some sort of Russian rifle rounding out the top three. This is a good budget buy, www.marlinfirearms.com/firearms/targetRifles/2000L.htm which can be converted into a Biathlon rifle with a kit that converts it to a 5-shot repeater along with an accessory rail.

I've got one of those Marlins. It's a great entry level gun. I routinly beat guys with Anschutzs ( Campy ) It's not nearly as refined as an Anschutz, but it's still good enough to learn on.

I too own a Marlin 2000 & it's a fine fine rifle. I have won a couple of matches at our gun club with it. If you shop around they're to be had for about 1/2 of a Walther or Anschutz but shoot as well.

I too have checked out the biathlon events & they seem to be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, there's none held in the Middle TN area. Something about sweaty females who shoot seems like a win/win situation to me!  >gg<

i believe marlin is still a sponsor of the summer biathlon series. their rifles are provided at the station for anyone wanting to use them.

unless your friend is already at the top of her running game, she may not benefit much by buying an expensive rifle. even a basic familiarity with a shooting any .22 rifle should be enough to get her by.

hey, pure energy....let's see if you can beat my new rifle!!! heheheh!

damn, if i was only your age!!!

i gotta go work on my offhand.

aimless, our club hosts a summer biathlon. the shooters run to the shooting station, but not with the rifle on their back. therefore, a heavy match rifle is an advantage.

Damn it Campy! Stop teasing me with that rifle.

Wow I like that Marlin. I might have to save up and get me one. I have been looking for another target type .22 but did not want to pay an arm and a leg.

Have you considered a Ruger model 77/22 V.S.? I use it for target with added on lyman aperture sights and it will shoot "dime size groups all day. Total cost was about $575.00

Who sells those nifty back slings that are used?  Thanks much,
