I noticed alot of people will say "oh the 1911 doesn't hold enough rounds" most people who have handguns use them for home defense most people don't have carry permits, so here is my question why don't people stick a 10rd mag in there 1911 for home defense it only sticks out about a inch farther and gives you a few extra rounds I got a chip mccormick power 10 mag and it works great. When I need to carry I just pop in a 8 round that fits flush.

I don't use 10 rounders because I don't think I need them....ECS

A 1911 with 8 round Wilson mags is all anyone needs. If you are worried about rounds, pack an extra mag or two....it isn't like they are bulky!

I just got a couple of Mr. Chip's 10rd power mags to experiment with. It feels nice having the extra two, but I don't know if I like the floorplate yet. I normally use 47Ds.

I have yet to hear a report of an honest to god home defense shooting that required a reload. Most take only 2-3 rounds if that.

The 10 round McCormick mags function fine and are reliable.  However, they sometimes don't drop free in a speed reload situation.  It's never happened to me, but I saw a cop demonstrate it on a range.  If you don't mind pulling 'em out, they're a beautiful thing.

Plus ... they look totally sweet.

Heck, why not go with the 15 rounds mags.  I have a couple of them.  They do stick out of the mag well, and look stupid.  However, if you are worried about adding rounds this would do it.

Oh....I don't think I have even loaded the 15 round mags in a couple of years.  I stick with the 8 round Chip Mc's.

While I own 10 rounders, I mostly keep my home 1911s loaded w/ Wilson 8 rounders. For those who think they can never have enough, shop around and you might still be able to find one of the 25 round drum magazines like the one laying in my gun safe.

Well, you could talk to the Beta Company, and see if they have a .45 ACP C-Mag for the 1911.  That should give you 80 rounds or so.

7 or 8 rounds from your 1911 should buy you enough time to reach for your rifle or shotgun.
