I have about twenty mags half 20's and 30's.  I just acquired two new orlites from CDNN, that seem to work fine.  I purchased used orlites from them, but I had to send them back because they would not latch into the reciever.

Hell , let me think . I guess I have 30/ USGI 30 round , 8/ USGI 20 round , 3 /Thermolds cause they were cheap when I bought them ,& 7/  5 round for hunting (1 no name pos plastic thing ,2 Colts & 4 Bushmasters) And several sundry 20 round mags from who can remember where . Oh yes , my workhorses , 6/ 20 round Colts . I think that's it , maybe . Now we wait to see if the ASSHOLES get rid of the hicap mag ban .Then the things will drop in price like lead balloons . Think you heard noises about the stock market , wait 'till you hear AR owners when the value of their hicaps drops down to $10 ! But I don't think anyone would really mind .

Do you guys just have a set number of mags or do you vary the number based on how many AR's you have?  I'm guessing I'll need to buy some more soon.

What would your bare minimum be for 3 guns?

The only thing the Bushmaster 10 round mag is worth is a free green follower inside.

I'm up to twelve 30's, six 20's, and one 5 for the timid range officers at the local public range.

Why do you guys like the green followers. And what does SHTF mean?

Taurus92AF, SHTF= Shit Hit The Fan.

Green followers are better, as they have a front leg that prevents the last couple rounds from tilting down in the mag (as some mags with the old black kind would) and jam.  The Mag faq in the mag forum explains alot.  Thermold mags and 20 round mags don't need green followers, just USGI 30's.

All this discussion on AR15 magazines is just what I need to know. I just got my first AR15 style rifle, a Bushmaster Varminter, and don't know a thing about an AR15. I just spent the evening in the basement learning how to disassemble & assemble the thing, so I can get it ready to shoot. What I would like to know, is what Mag. is the best? The mag that come with the rifle that is a five round plastic unit that looks like it wha mfg. at the Mattell Toy factory. I will have enough questions, to drive everyone on this forum crazy, but I will keep it to this one for this time.
Thanks,
Chubbo

Alot you can never have enough, before the hi cap ban in california we used to go down to the surplus store in Oceanside and get the smashed up Magazines for $5 bucks and turn them into the armory and get new 30 rounders. Our armory custodian didnt care he knew what we was doing.I also bought new ones at the Del Mar gunshow new USGI ones were like 17 bucks back in 98-99.I have 42 for my bushy.
I bought all of my 20 round M14 magazines from a guy who worked at DRMO mainside camp pendleton he lived in fallbrook and he had some how got ahold of 100 brand new mags and he had 30 left and i bought them all,he wanted 10 bucks apiece buck i waved $175 bucks and he took it.

I have 32 mags, USGI, all rebuilt, w/ green followers, and consider this the minimum number to have on hand.  This gives you two sets of 13 (reccomended load-out), for two sets of web gear and 6 spares.  The aluminum mags are one of the weak points of this weapon, because they can be damaged easily.  Plan accordingly.

I stopped for awhile at a 100 ... then kept going.

LOL. Excellent quote.

2 NIW USGI 30 rounders
17 very good/like new USGI 30 rounders (4 more on the way)
2 Good USGI 30 rounders
4 Thermolds
3 USA 30 round targets
1 USA 40 round target

That ought to do it for awhile.

All USGI, about 60 30's and 30 20's. 15 Beretta pre bans, about 8 glocks , 5 browning .380's(wifes gun), and several non factory ones somewhere that I don't count.

I like 15 30's per rifle and 10 20's per. With 5 AR's I need to start hassling the base personnel again.

The bare minimum would be 10 hi cap mags for each weapon. After you do that then it's time for a Beta C.

I don't have near as many as I used to. Probably around 20-25 30rds and about 5 Colt 20rds.

I sold 100 thirty rounders in one lot in late 1999 when mag prices skyrocketed because the end of the world was comming

If you know how many you have, you don't have enough ... more than a hundred, less than two hundred.

The same works for guns ... I can list ever gun I own but don't know the total number off the top of my head.
