It's available from Bushmaster #M4-D barrel more commonly known as the new M4-Dissapator. A complete rifle weighs 7.0 lbs in A1 or 7.1 with A2 sights. Has a great feel.
For some reason it's not available in pre ban config but if you insist on preban stuff, see Kurt's area in the vendor forum. He can do the same thing to a Heavy Dis barrel taken down to M4 or thinner profile. M4-AK |

edited to add: their's is without the M4 config-my mistake. Problem would be the position of the M4 barrel cutout but I'd have to measure it out. |

ArmaLite has been offering it's carbines in mid-length version for quite some time now.
I wish they would offer their excellent uppers in pre-ban config as well, though. |

It seems like the mid-length barrel has a front sight base right where the M203 notch would need to be...

get a 16 inch HBAR with mid lenth handguards from JT and have the m4 profile lathed out?

Here's the problem:
Armalite set out to move the front sight base further forward, to a "mid-length" location, since 16" barrels are required. And that was a fantastic, long-overdue idea. But THEY SCREWED IT UP! Intead of maintaining the same distance from the FS to the FSB, allowing bayonets to be used, they designed the upper with the FSB too far forward. Now the barrel (compared to the bayo lug) is 11/16" too short! ARGH! And, of course, since that was the "mid-length" "standard", that length was copied by RRA (who are former Armalite employees). So, now, the whole idea of the mid-length 16" barreled rifle is SCREWED. Sorry, Armalite, you blew it. -Troy |

They may? actually make it in preban config, but one could change the sight base to one with a lug and then have it threaded somewhere. M4-AK |

You could get a 16" Hbar form Bushy. I would go bushy as it is chrome lined. then send it to Kurts kustom. I am sure he would do it to your specs.
