I would love to have a 9mm carbine for plinking, maybe as home defense also (it could rest besides my 870). A postban Uzi would be nice, but the only ones I know of are Vectors and they are almost as much as pre-bans. A ruger PC9 would be nice, do the high cap mags function well in them? I'm looking for other suggestions. I would like for the price to be $600 or less. Thanks for any info.

Marlin Camp rifle----shoots good---uses S+W 59 mags---but if you don't use a net or something---you'll never find the brass. One in great condition can usually be found for under $300.

The Marlin uses S&W hi caps and the Ruger uses Ruger hi caps. In a semi auto 9mm either works just fine. I like the Marlins better of the 2. For under 600.00 samoleons those are pretty much your choices.

Your AR lower with a one piece mag block and a Colt 9mm upper. new buffer and off you go. It will also accept a UZI magazine with some modification. some other might suggest hammer, but my works fine with 223 hammer.

If you have cash, may I suggest a HK 94.

Try looking at a Ruger PC9. I have a PC4 (.40S&W) and like it very much. They speak very highly of the Ruger PC carbine on rugerforum.com the carbine also take the high cap mags from the Ruger pistols.

kel tec sub 2000. take glock mags, or SW mags, or beretta mags. it folds up quickj and easy. fits anywhere. pleanty of hi caps for the beretta one, or the glock one. costs about 300$.

I would also recommend the Ruger PC 9 or the Marlin Camp Carbine. Both use available pistol mags and both are very reliable. Take your pic. I prefer the Ruger with the ghost ring sights. Saw one of those in a shop a year or so ago. Pretty sweet handling carbine. Wish I would have bought it.

COLT - 9mm AR Carbine. There is none other; accept no substitutes.

The only thing not to love is the price.

I have only shot the HK, Marlin, Cobray, & Intratec.

I preferred the HK.

HK94 if you have $3500 or Special Weapons SW5 for around $1200.

The SW5 has a bad rep, but they are actually very good guns if assembled right.

I've put about 1000 rounds almost all full auto through my SBR'd SW5 with no jams. Of course I built it myself and had to replace the crappy Paki ejector with a German unit to make it reliable.

Kel-Tek sub2000.

Pros:

Accurate (though a little hard to sight in originally - set it and leave it). I shoot 1" holes at 50 yards with mine.

Reliable - not one failure of any kind in mine.

Cheap - check gungroker.com.

Folds up - yeah, it's a novelty but it's cool. Ready to shoot in 1 second.

LIGHT - weighs 4 pounds - feels like less.

Cons:

No bolt hold-open on last shot - no big deal.

Barrel is pretty rough - needs to be broken in. Again, no big deal.

What more do you want?

Thanks for all the info dudes. I was leaning toward the Ruger and it seems like that may be the way to go. I wish it had a pistol grip stock.

I've got a 9mm Colt AR and a Marlin Camp 9 but have never shot the Marlin yet. Since buying the 9mm AR I haven't shot any of my .223 rifles in almost 4 years...it's that much fun!! I'd like to get an Uzi but can't afford it right now. The kel tec is about half as expensive as I thought they were costing, I may have to rethink if they're running around $300.
