Its pretty cool, Ill try to test fire it this weekend and report back.

This would (theoretically) allow an AR/M16 with a 2 inch barrel. Heehee hoho

Wouldn't that be just a big fireball with no velocity?

Not to flame, new idea's are what keep this country rollin, but whats the point of a .223 with a 2" barrel. Your better off buying .22lr hadngun.

How did you do this? How is the blowback delayed?
Link Posted: 5/3/2002 3:24:51 PM EDT
Please test fire this by attaching it to an old tire and pulling the trigger with a l-o-n-g string!

Needless to say the powder in a commercially loaded .223 is all wrong for a 2 inch barrel. Actually, the .223 cartridge design is all wrong for a 2 inch barrel.

You might do better with a .22 magnum.

Good luck anyway! I'm also curious about your delay mechanism.

I had to reread his post to make sure he said, "THEORETICALLY" but yeah, I guess he should take a bunch of steps back anyway!

Whatever floats your boat, make sure that gun is secure in a rest 20 feet away, cause that guns going to want to flip!

I dont know if you guys missed the point.

What I just made eliminated the gas system. This mean LESS cleaning, less parts, less crap to go wrong, 10.5 inch bbls running flawlessly all day long. Less or no more carbon deposits, etc, etc.

Think HK style, but no roller lockers.

Theres no need to put a string on it and stand back. If the system works, it will cycle normally and safely. If it doesnt work, it'll be a straight pull bolt action.

HEY!!!

I was saving those for MY last words!

What's a redneck's last words?

"Hey y'all! Watchiss!!"

Well, whatever your design entails, it would be neat to see if it would work.

Hold my beer and watch this!

Theoretically I think you made a claymore.
FACE TOWARDS ENEMY and attach a very long string to trigger.

By all means, please have someone video tape it.

Pics ????????????

My primary concern would be that the action opens up too quickly, or maybe doesn’t hold to begin with. Still, I haven’t a clue how you’re doing this so maybe that’s not a danger.

Anyway, if we don’t hear back from you by the middle of next week, we’ll assume it didn’t work.

Good luck again.

Since the bolt unlocks only when the bolt carrier is moved to the rear, you will have a straight pull bolt action... unless you did something downright dangerous like Dremel the locking lugs off the bolt.

You left out "hold my beer"

On a delayed blowback, HK, Browning, etc, etc, the bolt is initially unlocked by the actual recoil/inertia of the round being fired. Once the bolt is unlocked, its just like a straight blow back 9mmAR or a 10/22.

It needs that nano second delay of the bolt unlocking to allow chamber pressures to come back down to a safe level for reliable extracting. Not to mention not getting your gun blown apart by a ruptured shell.

Right. So?

I'm just trying to guess why you're mystified by disabling the AR's gas tube.
