I just shot my new AR-10 last Sunday. It was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!

Accuracy was unbelieveable using mil-surp .308 & iron sights. Recoil was/is a joke especially compared to my G3.

A buddy of mine shot it & he is considering trading off his Polytech M-14 for one.

It is kinda funny looking at the AR-10's bolt carrier after shooting & owning AR-15s for years. Carrier looks like it's on steriods or something! >gg<

What type of AR10 do you have?

I have an AR10 A4 Carbine with black furniture. I have an aimpoint mounted on the Armalite 30mm one piece scope mount. I also have a 3x9 50mm Bushnell that will be mounted using a backordered Armalite 1" scope mount - when it comes in. I have been able to get 2.25" groups at 200 yards with the scope but I am hoping that with a new mount and non-milsurp ammo, I can tighten this down a bit. A love this weapon!

AR10 does have very nice recoil, but from what I have heard about G3's its a different kind of recoil and even then alot of people have told me G3's recoil very little. And if you want even less felt recoil, get a muzzle break from www.jpar15.com. Their break is amazing to say the least!

I want to get a 16" Std A2 upper for my AR10T.
And I would like a 16" AR10T carbine in .243.

I want.

I hunted for months and finally found an AR-10(T) in .243 - used but excellent. Now if I can just get out and shoot it ..............

May I ask how much $$ you paid? Did U get the carbine or the 24"?

My .308 AR10T is the 24" and man it is a tank of a rifle. I found it to big to hunt with and that was part of my justification in buying it.
Well, since it is so big and heavy that would justify blowing more $$ for the 16" upper. Right?

edited to spell carbine correctly.

I got the 24" barrel rifle and paid $1500 including box, manual scope mount and I think two mags.

Have you checked the ArmaLite site for a .243 carbine ?? I'm not sure but don't believe they make the AR-10(TC) in .243.

Since this is a rifle I'm keeping I've been 'considering' having the barrel cut to 18" and adding a muzzle brake. 18" barrels seem about the best trade-off between MV and a more handy rifle.

(I bought the AR-10(TC) also used in .308.)

I dont think so either. I checked the site again and it appears they only offer the "T" in the 24".

I dont think I could ever bring myself to do that to a $1,700 rifle.

Neither could I.

Now, buy another upper with a 18" barrel, yeah... But I wouldn't screw with the 24" barrel.

1. The retail for the barrel is $470.
2. Once you cut it, if you realize, "hey, I don't like this," you're SOL.
3. It's nice to be able to go from a dedicated target rifle/varminter to a run-n-gun carbine in 30 seconds.

I have the B model, aka the A2 type. It was all I could find locally.

That's the big problem. They're hard to find.

The price is a bit high but they're pretty elite. You can get an !3 or A4 for the price of a fancy 15.

.308 rules!

I'll probably go with with an A4 upper with the barrel trimmed to 18". (But only after I procrastinate another couple of weeks !) A couple of months ago SWAT magazine did some interesting shoot-measure-cut tests for muzzle velocity and 18" appears to be about the right balance between a handy rifle, muzzle velocity and accuracy (at longer ranges).
