Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Army M-16's on David Letterman Show last night

On the Top Ten list...from Texas, out in the field, a mech infantry squad with an M-1 Abrams and an M-2 Bradley in the background...a mix of M-4's and M-249's...but the last trooper raised his weapon up, so I got a very good look at it: a 20" barrel, with flat-top upper (detachable carry handle installed), long RAS, M-203...so is this new production, or a refit? What do you think?

I spoke with someone here in the guard last month and he said they just got all new uppers with the detachable handle as an upgrade.

If I'm not mistaken, that is an M16-A4 (flat-top configuration is what distinguishes the A4, I believe).
