I have a Bushmaster XM15 E2S A3 20in Rifle. I just have a general question as to the maximum firing range of this rifle. Can anyone give me an idea? With the optimal ammunition, what is the longest range I can obtain? What type of ammunition would be required? Thanks.

Be more specific.

bkhoward,

Back in the corps days a typical rifle qualification ended with 10 shots at the 500 yrd line at a full human outline target. A good shooter could max this, because it was shot in the prone position. Standard M-16A1, standard ammo.

This should tell you that even a stock rifle is sweet. It always depends on the shooter.

Maximum range for you to be able to hit anything without looking like an archer or maximum effective range?

Two different things.

I know in the US Army manuals the maximum range is 3534 meters, but maximum effective range is 550 meters for a point target and 800 meters for an area target.

With a barrel twist rate of 1 turn in 9 inches and 60-62 gr. bullets and a man on the trigger that can hit a pop can at 150 yds, max effective should be 800 yds.
