Does anyone know if you can. If so where? I am considering putting one of these on my 700P. I like my stock better than the LTR's. thanks..

You might want to try contacting George Gardner at www.gaprecision.net  he usually has some take offs available.

But to save you some money, why not just chop the barrel of your PSS down to 22" and recrown the barrel?

The barrel on my 700P shoots great. I hate to cut it. I like the short barrel of the LTR but I hate the stock. That is my dilemma. Any other suggestions on a short barrel?

Why not get the 26" fluted?  A PSS stock is longer than a LTR stock and I'm not sure the proportions of a 20" barrel would look "right" (whatever that means).  An LTR looks pretty snubby even with the shorter stock.  I'm thinking about building a PSS chambered for .300WM, cut the stock to 22" with a choice of a OPSINC brake or suppressor.  23" looks good to my eye.

Thanks Stokes. You pretty much solved the LTR barrel issue. If you were going to cut a stock PSS barrel what would you cut it down to? The barrel I have shoots great. Would you save it and buy another? Any suggestions?

I just got a VS in .223 and am having it cut down to from 26" to 20" and having a non-slotted Gemtech bi-lock put on it as to use my M4-96D with a bolt-gun.

This will give me about a 22" barrel and about 30" with the suppressor mounted.

If I put a hider on it would the diameter of the barrel match the flashhider. What is the thread pattern? Does anyone have a picture of the end result? What wold a hider from a FN Fal look like (not the long one)? I think that would be cool looking. The things you learn from this board! Thanks for all the info and advice!

The Hider I am talking about is a Belgium Combo Hider. My friend has one on a FN FAl and it works good. What do you think?

Mine should be done sometime next week - I'll post some pictures (bare and with suppressor mounted).

The Gemtech bi-lock is about the same diameter as the VS barrell and should make for a nice job. Gemtech makes them slotted (as in flash-hider) for pre-ban AR15/M16's and non-slotted for bolt-guns.

It uses standard AR15/M16 threads.

I have a 26" PSS  barrel on my rifle that was taken down to 18 1/2" and threaded 1/2"-28.  I put a standard Smith Enterprise AR15 MB on it.  The total lenght is 20" and the diameter of the barrel to MB is very close.  The MB just clears the .308 and I have never any stikes, or even copper marks on the MB.  It works well and looks good in the HS Precision PST59 stock.  That is the stock that HS Precision puts on their factory Rapid Deployment Rifle.  It is basicly an upgraded version of the one they sell to Remington for the LTR.  At 20" and a full profile it is still a little on the heavy side, but it is nice.  I plan on trying the Vortex on it too.  I will try to get some pictures.

If the belgian short/combo flashhider is a true replica then it will be threaded 9/16 x 24 left hand threads.  You can go to FALfiles.com to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure that's right.  HTH.  KYle

Got my Rem 700/VS in .223 back from the gunsmith today.

As per my above post, I had the following done:
- barrel shortened from 26" to 20"
- installed Gemtech bi-lock so as to use my M4-96D supprssor, which brought it to 22"

Looks pretty good with Leupold 4.5-15x50 Tactical scope.

Here's some pictures:

Just out of curiosity, has anyone considered adding a BOSS-style comp on the front of a heavy barrel?  My concern about adding a comp on the front of my FN is that of barrel harmonics.  Anyone who has used a BOSS and tuned to a particular bullet can attest to the fact that the placement of the weight does affect the grouping.  I would love to use a BOSS for recoil control, but haven't pursued it for this reason.  Just wondering....
