I know that a rifle has to have a 16inch barrel and overal length of 26inches with buttstock. But can u have a rifle with a 16inch barrel and overal length 26inches without a buttstock??

No. A rifle is defined as a shoulder fired weapon. The BATF requires it to have a stock. If it doesn't it's classed as an AOW. A shotgun can just have a pistol grip though...

I was just getting a cup of coffee and was thinking of your question. The BATF ok's the sale of semi-auto M1919's and M-2's and these are without stocks so maybe I should disqualify my original statement and suggest you check with BATF.

PS---AOW is Any Other Weapon
