Figured I might as start a project thread.

Hog gun usually looked like this in all 8-10 coats of krylon glory.

Eventually decided it was time for a change up

During the stripping process

Upper will not have to coated which is nice and it cleaned up real good,  but the hand guard will be getting refinished

Upper is back together sans hand guard

I'm using kleen premium stripper and it didn't touch the factory finish on anything except the lower reciever where it took off the cerakote down to bare metal

Currently waiting for some supplies I ordered right now,  I will mainly be using brownells Alumahyde ii.

Also am waiting on

Bcm wolf gray stock
Bcm wolf gray keymod rail covers
Bcm wolf gray short keymod vfg
Arisaka light body
Mall off head

And assorted refinishing supplies.

Stay tuned I hope to finish this up over the next several days

Is going to dry a flat color or keep the shine.   I like that color I'd work great in my neck of the woods along with greens

It was wet when I took the pic it's drying matte.  Ya I decided to try aervoe field drab even though I wasn't planning on using any rattle can but I must admit I like the stuff a lot.  It went down very nice and has a good finish.

Alumahyde will be handling the lower though

Aervoe is only going on the scope and maybe the light body and only bc I wanted a kac taupe looking scope lol or else I would leave it black.

Upper is staying factory black since it cleaned up so nice.   Lower is getting alumahyde earth brown (dark).  Hand guard I'm undecided will either get fresh alumahyde black or earth brown as well (leaning towards black.

And yes it was wicked expensive to order refinishing shit.   Aervoe was 25$ shipped for 1 fucking can.   Alumahyde was worse.

As it being expensive, is it pretty tough. I've only used Rustoleum and krylon paints.

Are you keeping your barrel black?  Just an idea.. if you do leave the handguard black the barrel would look nice in the earth brown under it and break up the all black upper.

Maybe when I see the final product.. I may change my mine on the cheap rattle can job.

Was both kinds easy to spray on vs regular rattle can paint?

Yes very easy.   Duracoat aerosol cures faster than alumahyde but we'll see how durability compares
