Nice hoard. What paint do you use. I like the arevoe color but the dry time sucks, I like rustoleum tan, sand and brown the best. Dries with to touch in minutes ready to shoot. If I ever had to grab one of my mint rifles to use and needed camo rustoleum would be the choice.
|

|
Rustoleum khaki and brown. I tried sand. It's much more yellowish. Not sure I like it. Here's khaki vs sand.
Attached File I like the fact that spray paint is not as durable as other options. I never do touch ups. I just want to break up the outline and also break up my aversion to abusing pristine rifles. Once they are painted I really don't care what else happens to them. The wear is part of the look after a while anyway. |

My only unpainted rifle, that I planned to be mostly black, became my main farm and hunting gun. So had to paint peanut butter baby poo aka Aervoe field drab.

This is my first try at painting a rifle. I just built this as my day hunting rifle for hogs and deer in South Carolina. I used Krylon Camo. FDE base, of green and dark brown and some light green at end.

Like the laundry bag mesh snakeskin, pinestraw seems like a simple way to get appealing, repeatable results (and it doesn't look like snakeskin). Sponge technique seems to be less idiot proof, but has a few different types of results depending on how you do it. And anything can be a stencil if you're brave enough. Torn cardboard with jagged edges, leaves, painter's tape. |

Want to try something that isn't snake pattern lol View Quote My camo technique is base coat of tan (rustoleum khaki on scope and lower, rustoleum sand on stock and upper in this case). Then I tear a piece of cardboard like the flap of an Amazon box, into whatever random shape that it tears into with curves, etc and use that as a stencil. I vary between putting the edge right up to the gun and spraying the dark brown away, creating a hard edge that fades, and holding it further away from the gun to kind of create a less distinct shaded area. Then I step back and kind of spritz the whole thing with dark brown, and then spritz the dark areas with the base color. It creates the bold contrast I want without being too involved with stencils or masking (other than lenses, etc). Attached File |
