What did you use for stencils?

Dry time between coats so it didn't stick/peel up?

Did you use aervoe or something like brownells alumahyde II? or the sprayable duracoat.

Need to do this in my life.

I'm obviously not the guy you are asking, but I've used these guy's stencils before. They are pretty awesome and simple to use:

http://weaponworksllc.com/patterns/

http://weaponworksllc.com/refinishing-supplies/stencils/

I used just basic-cheap krylon... and waited ~ a day between each coat.

I finally bit the bullet.

I wish I'd remembered to keep the mesh closer to the gun.  It didn't have much effect.

In full sunlight, it's lighter than I'd like, but it's still a damn sight better than black.  I may speckle a bit more dark brown to see what effect it has.  We'll see.

I used a combination of Aervoe, Krylon, and Rustoleum spray paint. With Aervoe I wait a day in between coats. Kryrlon and Rustoleum only a couple of hours. Stencils I used are these.
Multicam Stencil
You can also find some decent stencils on Ebay but I like these ones the best.

Well I pulled the trigger...let’s just say it was scary hahaha. Does anyone else have a problem with a magpul pistol grip being a little tacky...? I know the sling mount is tacky because it’s paint on plastic coating but the grip I don't know about. Any ways here are the pics...please tell me your thoughts.

Yeah just let it air out a couple days and it will get less tacky. Then you'll use it and most of the paint will disappear from the grip all together..

Nice paint job, I did mine similar but I used a mesh bag lightly draped over. What did you use for those really defined lines?
Also, nice can. I have one of those in jail. How do you like it?Attachment Attached File

I also used a mesh bag.
I love that can, one of my favorites. If I were to get a duplicate rifle can, it’d probably be another one of those. I have a Rugged Razor that should be home any day now, I can’t wait to compare them.

For nice defined lines, make the mesh bag nice and taught so it sits close to the gun, vs loose/just draped over it.

Yea I did mine.  Just sprayed the rail and receivers with Rustoleum forest green didn't do any camo pattern.

Anyone know how a Aervoe Olive Drab and Aervoe Earth Brown camo job would look?  Probably would do olive drab as the base then spray areas of the brown and use a gym bag or something to create a olive drab pattern over the brown and a brown over the olive drab?...  Very new to painting so not sure what direction to go.  I live in more of a wooded environment

Did this lower in Aervoe Field Drab. I really like it. It has a hit of green to it in some lighting, but in bright natural light it looks like in this photo.

Going to do my Bootleg upper and SLR rail in this color this week.

Wow, that is impressive.  I'm having a hard time getting my Diemaco lower properly engraved.  Had two done, came out looking like shit compared to yours.

Anyway, pic thread.

Krylon and Rustoleum for the tan ones.

Better pic from shortly after sighting in yesterday. Colors don't really match the vegetation at my range, but I spend more time in the woods during fall and winter. Should work good then.

Probably less than $400 in it. I'll be using it for steel case mag dumps and banging around on the 4 wheeler.

Never done camo paint before.  Thought I'd practice on a few ammo cans first.  I liked the way they turned out.  So I did a "not a yeti-tumbler" too.  I used a enamel gloss clear coat on the tumbler.

Thank you.

I started with de-greasing (alcohol) the "whatever it is I'm going to paint", then using 4 colors of Rust-oleum (SP?) camouflage colors I started by base coating the whole item in tan.  A couple - three coats, then, went from light to dark with some vegetation I found around my house.  I have a fuck ton of ammo cans I'm going to try different methods on until I find a method I like most.  then I'll do my Tavor.  I bought a few more tumblers to play with as well.  I did add 3 layers of clearcoat to the tumbler.

I'm going to do my GoPro frame and magnet mount too.  I already did the external battery bank.
