Rustoleum and Krylon Camouflage paints.

Upper and lower/stock painted at separate times (obviously).

Nah, not really a "clone" of anything, the paint job is just a generally "Multicam-ish" job, the rifle is usually a little more "modern" looking:

I swapped around some of the accessories so that I could use the rifle as a "demonstrator" for the B. E. Meyers prototype mount and NT4, since there has been some interest in them since B. E. Meyers and Weapon Outfitters finally released some of them NOS last month (they also recommended against use with a suppressor, but that's neither here nor there ). I just threw together some accessories I had to make it more closely "representative" to what the weapon might have looked like when the B. E. Meyers mount was originally developed and tested (more or less a decade ago). Still, I didn't really make a great effort to make it a "clone," I just threw on what I had on hand and wouldn't require too much effort to add to the weapon.

Thinking about adding some earth brown to it, Aluma Hyde FDE at the moment.

Took the HK 416 grip off until I can replace the standard trigger guard with a KAC. I like the way the HK feels and looks, but the constant pressure and rubbing on my finger is painful and distracting. I Found the trigger guard insert for my spare BCM Gunfighter I had laying around, sprayed them with some dark camo brown and voila:

No more blisters and this rifle keeps getting harder to beat. ETA: Harder to beat in comparison to MY other ARs. There are tons of better paint jobs and nicer rifles in this thread and all over the place.

Has anyone done a gray scale camo job?   With many of the pictures now broken of fubard by photobucket it is hard to look back through the thread.  I tried one a few years ago and wasn't that happy with how it turned out since I was layering lighter colors over dark.   Kinda thinking of doing a 11.5" pistol build in a gray scale but need some encouragement from some folks that have done it before.

I browsed through the comments but didn't see any mention of what colors you used for the Kryptec camo. I was wondering if you remembered? Also if you have any tips you care to share?

First time paining a rifle. Used Alumahyde II in Magpul FDE.  Will probably add some green to it soon

Started with this.

No, but a few blemishes on the paint is part of the draw and I think helps it be that much more effective.

I'm all for the patina, I just don't want paint to melt off the first time I clean the gun. Just wondering if anyone had that trouble. Maybe it depends what cleaning products you use?

I use Slip 2000 725 in a spray bottle and then Slip 2000/Slip 2000 EWL for lube afterwards. Haven't had any issues.

Thanks.

Would non-chlorinated brake cleaner remove rustoleum or krylon?

Nice progression of pictures.   Is it the outdoor lighting or does that have some grey on it?

For those that did the desert scheme, what are the colors?  Looks like tan base, chocolate or dark brown, then something with a red hue to it?  Krylon?

thanks!

I think the outdoor lighting removes a lot of the shadows and secondary colors.  The pics I took outside were days with overcast and no direct sunlight.

My indoor lighting is like 60w tan light.

There are multiple colors in a lot of layers:
Stock and rail had one type of flat tan and flat dark brown on them when I got them from @Dobs013
I painted the receivers and buffer tube with rust-oleum flat tan and a satin nutmeg color
Once I got the rifle together I then touched up the under sprayed areas with the flat tan and nutmeg
I painted the scope and mount with a different flat tan that was darker than the rifle and then the nutmeg (because I was running out of the flat tan)
I then highlighted the scope and mount with my original rust-oleum flat tan that I had left.
