The Clip-Ons will have larger lenses (19, 35, 50, 75mm) so will be much more difficult to use as a helmet mount too, but will be great for weapon mounting and targeting.

The Q14B hand/helmet scanner has a 9.1mm lens for a wider FOV and close up focusing at your feet for better motility and scanning.

Don't care. I want diversity in a product like that seeing how it's so expensive (relative).

They took it out for no other reason than $.

Engineers:  it wouldn't be perfect but we could easily swing more options in this and give the customer a better experience. Just have marketing be clear this option is a bonus and don't expect too notch performance

Customers:  *goes wild*

Bean counters/executives: *huddle together and whisper*:  the customers will gripe but buy it anyway. If we leave the features in it might eat into our other products. Greed greed greed money money money.

*features mysterious vanish and marketing tries to convince customers it's a good thing because "eye relief"

Good thing they did not design it for a dedicated weapon mount as it would have been a crappy weapons system with the super short eye relief.

Capitalism.

I totally wish didn't lose the weapon sight as well, especially since its just Firmware and doesn't cost them a dime. Is it marketing, or maybe someone at flir not wanting to compromise in the least on quality?  Is it a combo of both?  (I think combo of both myself)

The way capitalism works: if you think it is for a shit reason then don't spend money with them.

I for one am still game.  Lets ship em!!

The view from the tiny lightweight 19mm Boson Clip-On is as good or better than the view from my 640 core TAU2 FLIR T-70s!

And I can bang steel all night long at 200 yards with the T-70s on my 6.5 Grendel SBRs, its boring!

Will be a great setup for shooting out of my mobile UTV stand with the FLIR M-324XP Pan/Tilt thermal scanner.

All I need besides the BOSON Clip-On is MORE AMMO!

I guess. I just don't know why people do it to themselves. That's why companies fuck people over constantly. They know that in the end it doesn't matter.

I guess I'm turning into a miserable old man. I find myself buying less and less. I'm just sick of dealing with stuff like this. Gimping products. Treating employees like garbage. Et cetera.

I'm in a pissy mood lol. Don't mind me.

It definitely looks like it has an awesome picture though.

Cheer Up! Crying over spilled milk never gets it back in the cup.

A weapon mount Q14 with a 9.1mm lens would not be worth much for targeting anyhow.

Get ready for some mind blowing thermal and be happy!

Any updates on when these are actually getting released, or FLIR hopes to have final versions out in to the hands of the enthusiast sites for review, because this still feels a whole lot like vaporware without anything concrete from FLIR.

I wasn't expecting the Q14B to be a great clip on weapon sight, but I was expecting it to be as useful as the current Q14 offering, which does have that feature. I don't think it would have been crucified nearly as much as it is right now, had they just kept the feature to use in a pinch. The current Q14 isn't what I would want on a weapon for full time use, but it certainly fills the dual role in a pinch.

Since this can be resolved in a firmware patch, I can only hope FLIR comes to their senses in the coming years worth of updates, and hopefully those updates continue and are compatible with these initial devices, because FLIR told me that to get a firmware update on my Q14, it would require a Board replacement ($500) to utilize the newest updates despite the device being under warranty from Armasight.

LOL, The Bosons are NOT vaporware no matter how many times you repeat that.

Your old Q14 is a TAU2 core and has absolutely nothing to do with any Boson core, they are entirely incompatible in every way possible.

is that a No to the date?

I understand that the sensor and other hardware in the Q14 and Q14B are different - Thank you for implying that I am an idiot. I would expect a next gen device to utilize different hardware.

That being said, the original Q14 also had "Free" Firmware updates. However, something on the mainboard design changed and FLIR wanted a $500 update for the device to take the newest firmware. This was while the device was under warranty and fully functional.

Is that type of issue resolved in the Q14B? I ask because 10 years of free updates are worth a lot less if you need a new hardware revision mainboard every 2 years for $500.

Sorry, FLIR did not design the Q14, Armasight did prior to being merged with FLIR now.

I did not imply that, it is a simple fact.

This thread is about BOSON Q14B, not the older Armasight design Q14.

The date FLIR took over Armasight is a YES!

Can we knock it off with the name calling?

I hardly think that asking for release dates, specs, or raising a valid concern about hardware upgrade costs to support free firrmware updates equates to hating FLIR. I don't hate FLIR.

I'm confused... At Shot the demo Q14B had reticle, will the production model just be a scanner without the reticle feature? That would be a shame, I was hoping to mount the Q14B onto my airsoft and wreck havoc on anything that walk, eat, breath on my property

Your SOL, that reticule was just a joke reticule that was non adjustable and did not work for anything, only TWS will have useable reticules and acceptable eye relief.

Does it do image capture?  If so how do you download the images and how many can it store at once?  Taking pictures with thermal is important to me.

That 320 image looks really good but I gotta ask, are they gonna make a 640?

Hey bushman.  Yes image capture as well as how I captured the images in this thread and DL'd via USB.  As for the amount of storage?  Good question and I will look into as it was a early unit I was testing.  Thanks.

what about the Q14B?

hopefully that will be included in the top secret classified release today, unless its already out.
I stopped looking in this thread to keep from getting excited about the Q14B until it came out

I'm not really interested in a TWS

Which looked to be a black hot version of instalert?

This thread has been edited to be a discussion of the boson core now it appears.
It's not exclusive to the q14b as it originally started.

There appears to be no information regarding the Q14B.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Invasive wildlife control specialists and tactical professionals understand the significant benefits of thermal imaging technology. Many have gone without this unique capability, however, because buying the best thermal imaging weapon sight is an expensive proposition.

At least it used to be.

Today, FLIR Outdoor and Tactical Systems (OTS) introduces the FLIR ThermoSight Pro Series weapon sights, a new level of performance, compact power and superior value to the sporting, law enforcement and tactical markets.

Powered by FLIR’s newest, compact, uncooled, high-performance 12-micron Boson™ thermal camera core, these next-generation thermal weapon sights set a new standard in thermal image quality, while offering a wealth of innovative and intuitive performance features. Best of all, the ThermoSight Pro models are available at a favorable retail prices below what consumers might expect to pay for other thermal targeting systems offering less performance and fewer features.

Real Performance

ThermoSight Pro PTS ProductFLIR’s new Boson™ core is the brain behind the brawn of the new FLIR ThermoSight® Pro Series. The 12-micron, uncooled long wave camera enhances video analytics and image processing, enabling FLIR to create smaller, lighter optics with increased image performance and range. Featuring a 12 µm pixel pitch, industry-leading on-chip video processing, and an uncompressed video signal fed directly to a high definition 1280x960 display, ThermoSight® Pro offers superior detection and classification in the field, with brilliant, clean thermal imagery in any light – from low contrast daylight to total darkness – or through smoke, haze, light fog and rain.

Real Compact Power

Available in three models, each FLIR ThermoSight Pro offers 320x240 thermal resolution and packs greater levels of performance and functionality into a remarkably compact, nimble and lightweight housing. Extremely reliable, the new FLIR ThermoSight® Pro is the perfect addition to any hunting or security weapon platform, striking an ideal balance between size and performance. A robust aircraft-aluminum alloy body protects its powerful and compact hardware.

Register memorable moments with onboard video recording and image capture, while managing them with Bluetooth 4.0 and USB-C connectivity. Internal storage provides remarkable capacity: up to four hours of video or 1,000 still images. The initial offering in the series features patent-pending High-Visibility Technology (HVT), which displays iconology and graphic overlays crisply and clearly over all backgrounds.

Models:

FLIR ThermoSight Pro PTS233 – 19 mm lens, 4X digital zoom and 12-degree field-of-view
FLIR ThermoSight Pro PTS533 -- 50 mm lens, 4X digital zoom and 4.5-degree field-of-view
FLIR ThermoSight Pro PTS733 -- 75 mm lens, 4X digital zoom and 3-degree field-of-view
