+1 for another guy impressed with this. Had it shining on tree lines alongside a MAWL-C1+ and -DA and they were all hanging in there pretty close on their longer-range settings for illum. Definitely no full-beam lightsaber for the dot like on the restricted units, but the illuminator was very interesting. Will be following closely, especially with the prices I overhead people mentioning on the range...

That is a nice clean illuminator beam with little spill. Either a badass emitter or .1% of the humidity we have here.

The A4 is a step in the right direction for Steiner, and God knows they needed it. They cannot afford to rest on their laurels like L3 with its deep pockets and vast military contracts.

The A4 has a great illuminator 5 power settings from low to high with the 90 deg illuminator cone being nifty for CQB. It hangs with the MAWL C 1+ and DA in terms of illumination and laser dot, but the MAWL still has it beat for ergo nomics and size and rail space take up.

If you can afford a MAWL get a MAWL but if you cant this is the laser for you, the only hang up I have is an all in one unit light/laser/illuminator combo, if it takes a shit you've lost both your IR and white light functions and I still prefer a separate upgrade-able light so I get a smaller laser package and the ability to upgrade my light as technology gets better.
500 lumens is respectable but in a year or 3 I bet 500 wont be all that great when compared to some of the 1000+ lights that'll surely be out there.

All in all well done Steiner.

Did Steiner fix the battery drain issue wiht when the laser isn't switched to off while in a rack or storage.

Supposedly this was addressed years back and is no longer an issue.

I have a d2 that I keep meaning to take the battery out if for this reason. It's been many months in there on the off position. Not to mention actual use. Battery is still good to go.

Of course this is just my story. Completely anecdotal. Who knows if I got lucky and some units stil display the issue.

Apparently not, they (steiner) told me this was "normal" on my A3. May 2015 from the first batch you guys got.

To clarify im talking about when the rotary switch on the back is in any position but "off" they stated that the drain while in storage but not turned on is "normal"

It doesn't drain when the rotary switch is turned to "off"

You've never used one. You seem to have a constant hardon for bashing it though. Not sure how many times, by how many different posters, in how many threads, you have to be told that it's the best laser on the market currently, and worth the cost.

I give the Never Divulge until After everyone else has already released the product guys a pass on the switch. They have a sizable investment financially, not to mention it took something like 2 1/2 years to perfect it prior to release and I think it is nice. Most of the switches users do seem to like it and it probably does improve ergonomics on an already ergonomic device.

What's not to love!

Also to clarify the electronics in the unlikey event one of the components goes down. I had in indepth conversation with Steiner on Monday in Ohio where they confirmed the electronics are independent from each other so i.e., if an IR Illuminator goes down, it will not cause the whole system to go down just the specific component. Hope this helps.

The original version of the A4 was supposed to debut their new direct drive green laser. I don't see any mention of that in the literature for the V2. Can you tell us where things are at with that?

Great question! A lot has changed with their technology in regards to green diodes. While not DD green diodes, (they did not have to go that route, very expensive) but their current green diode technology does not present the older cold weather limitation we once saw.

Hard to imagine in this day in age having to still split ir lasers to get green. I did not know that green diodes were still very expensive. I never really cared about visible lasers since I only used them to zero. Are any ldi or Steiner products using dd green lasers?

We're almost half way through September. Any idea how much longer it'll be? The A4, that is (not the _{fictional new} model).

Only two actual fire buttons and yes they perform the same operation. The only way the Vis. override operates is with a pressure switch.

That is the toggle button that serves two purposes.
1. Hold the toggle button and fire button at the same time that allows a 5 step inctease or decrease in power in any mode.
2. Pressing the toggle in IR Lum mode toggles wide spill and narrow long range. In flood mode for room clearing, it flood lights an entire room. Very imprrssive I might add.

Just for reference that issue was supposedly fixed and my dbal d2 doesn’t exhibit this behavior.

I’m drooling over this. Think I’m going to put my d2 for sale now.

The L3 APTIAL/PEQ15 is adjusted the same procedure according to their manual.

I think the MAWL is defiantly the ergo king in its field. Its like someone at BE Meyers looked at how people actually shoot their rifles and made the most compact ergonomically correct device they could. Hmm.

That price tag though...

Agreed. If it had a white light and cost the same as this dbal supposedly is I’d have one instead of just testing out one.
