Besides the benefit of less power consumption, less weight for the core and battery supply, the smaller required germanium lens diameter results in significant cost savings too, price of entire unit is about 20% LESS than a larger pixel core with larger lens system just from the cost of the lens alone.
Wonder what the MTBF is on these new denser cores? |

Not that this matters much as most units will have them at some point no matter what.

I think it just needs some tweaking. |

There is new and exciting thermal and digital stuff in the next few years from many, that makes my head spin. We're at a crossroads right now what will be some breakthrough technology. My money is on digital as I've watched with a keen eye over the years.

Until your eye can view a digital display as a true "pass-through" image (like i^2) there will always be issues. I'm sure that day will come (and I hope it comes quickly), but right now I've never seen a digital display that I can navigate comfortably with on my head. Viewing and targeting, sure, but it's still a very unnatural process. |

Here is the next set of down range pics out at approx. 75 yards with a man with a gun behind a tree. Once again, these are taken with a I-Phone and no where close to what I was seeing. Raw image capture shots coming.

For the clip-on function is it only for 1× or can you also use it with magnification? Either way this appears to be a ton of scope for the money. Especially that 12 mic sensor

I've used my 1-4x six year old Elcan on the MK1 with good success. I had the beta of the MKII for a few weeks but did not use in clip-on duties.

I do know that the MK I is a tested scope and I personally think it is a nice scope as well, compared to other scopes in the market.. My comment is only directed towards the BAE 640 core. It is my understanding that they have couple of prototype cores from BAE. BAE has yet to send these cores into full production as they are eagerly looking for a major manufacturer to partner up with. Unless they find someone who is willing to buy these cores in the thousands, like a government entity, it won't make any feasible sense to head into production. If the thread was about MK I I wouldn't have said anything but because it is about MK II which is a using a newer technology, I think my question is fair. I know the maker of IR hunter and consider him a friend. But as an new technology enthusiast, I'd would like to know more details.
I'll add, I am wrong about the statement above, please prove me wrong. I am man enough to admit it. People have mentioned that they have seen batches and batches of cores from BAE. I just want to find out the real information so I can separate the facts from the fiction |

Wow. This looks like a great product. If it is as durable and reliable as the FLIR RS64-35 I have, they will have a huge hit on their hands. It should keep the pressure on FLIR to upgrade reticles and continue product enhancements.

If you were going to use this as both a hand held viewer for detection and as a dedicated scope, which lens would you go with?
I have used the LS64. The field of view is 18° × 14°. It works well. The 35mm Mark II datasheet says the "base FOV" is 12 degrees. There seems to be a number missing for a direct comparison. |

If I needed more distance, the 35mm would be for me. Here is some relative inherent shots at 200 yards. As for numbers missing IR Defense states only horizontal FOV which is 12deg.

I like the web pics enough I think I'm gonna check out a 35mm version. The wife has been hoggig the LWTS during deer hunting this year. I think we need to be a two thermal family now. |
