My guess is a ITT/Harris OMNI VIII Autogated, mil spec. Do yourself a favor and edit out the serial number.

What about them? Must be Omni 5 non gated? But the contract confuses me.

They're Omnibus VII contract purchases, ITT Corporation was the awardee, top tube was ordered on Delivery Order 0004, bottom tube ordered on DO 0012. Delivered to the department of the Army. That contract was an interesting one -- it caused the complaints. It was all for ANVIS tubes.

0004 was issued July 27, 2010 and all goods were accepted by December 20, 2010.
0012 was issued April 01, 2011 and all goods were accepted by May 1, 2011.

They're both Aviation tubes, but not even close to the same manufacture date. How do they look?

All are 43mm non inverted tubes (like for all PVS7)

1. ITT Omni 7 Build: 51 week 2010
2. ITT Omni 7 Build: 28 week 2012
3. ITT Omni 7 Build: 28 week 2012
4. ITT Omni 6 Build: 12 week 2010
5. ITT Omni 6 Build: 32 week 2011
6. ITT Omni 6 Build: 49 week 2004
7. Litton Omni 7 Build: 21 week 2009
8. ITT Omni 5 Build: 46 week 2001
.
Just check http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_18/317705_.html for the contracts. With NSN+Cage you mostly can find the manufacturer

Link Posted: 3/30/2017 4:56:47 PM EDT

All omni 7 will be thinfilm autogated
Omni 6 will be autogated (I think thinfilm aswell, but not 100% sure)
Omni 5 should be non gated.

It could be anything from a stellar quality aviation/special purpose tube to a dogshit-grade tube. Not all tubes delivered under a contract meet the contract delivery order minimums, as each delivery order specifies the test quantity per lot. Even knowing that it's an Omni VII tube won't tell you specs of the specific tube, just that it *might* have met similar specifications.

Documentation on Qioptiq's site says it's good on 7.62 systems, but, uh, I dunno if I'd use it on a 7.62 weapon unless it's in the KITE optic.

Nope. That's not a military contract tube.

Wrong. It's not an Omnibus purchased tube. "Omnibus $num" is the name of the DoD contract under which Electrooptical devices are procured.

If someone sold you that while calling it Omni ANYTHING, they ripped you off. That tube is a straight up civilian market device.

I know that.
I was trying to figure an approximate production date since the manufacture dates of a tube somewhat matches the available technology and specs.
Available technology parallels Omni contracts.

I don't think that applies though. Current tubes can still have varied specs depending on commercial vs mil spec tubes. UNV was selling some comspec filmless tubes that are brand new and they weren't gated and I just figured all newer tubes would be coming out autogated.

DC 0418 tells that it's non-autogated, model number tells that it's civilian F9800N tube. Made in 2004, thin-filmed. It's the first thin-filmed model that ITT made, but 8 years after they sold the first thin-filmed ones to the military.

Wait a minute, doesn't the early 2000 F9800 series include thin film Pinnacle tubes too? I though I had one from 2003, F9800AG.

True, was just wondering about ITT providing first thin films around 2004 as you said. But I might have misread what you said, the AG might not be a civilian model. This is off topic, sorry for that, wasn't speaking of the N tube.

I believe the first thin-filmed tubes were 1996, but I do know that the f9800 was the first released itt tube model to utilize thin-filmed technology.

Nice humble brag. Lol. Foreign tubes aren't my wheelhouse.

I'd put it at about the performance of recent (10 years ago) US gen3 Image Intensifiers, even though the gain figures are waaaaaaaaaaaaay low. It's probably a nice looking tube. Supposedly it's only 350nm-900nm responsive? Huh?

Autogated Gen 2+ tube in the XD4 format.  I think the CH suffix is the code for auto gating.

Interestingly the gating only kicks in when the device is pointed at a bright light. Otherwise the tube emits no telltale hum.  Maybe all the newer gated stuff does this?

It isn't their high end but it is a step up from their COMSPEC or whatever they call the bare bones tube.

Here's a photo with about half moon illumination.

I have the chance to buy the following tube. It's hard to find more details of the tube. Can somebody help me?

KM 272069-8

I think 0407 is 2004 the 7th week, right?
S/N = serial number?
Is the tube shock resistent?

f9800 SELA (Select, Alpha), ITT thin film, no autogating.

Your date is right, looks like it was probably one of those ENVIS SERE monocles... The ones that had a semi-transparent housing, lol.

@ awptickes: Many thanks you saved my day

The seller told my it is a filmless L3. I couldn't believe. So now I know the truth! Many thanks :-)
The picture I receive show - I think - a metal housing. The numbers are engraved.

My understanding is that the shock resistance of thinfilm tubes is ok. They could be used for weapon sights. Is it right?
Could you give my some data as S/N, FOM or lp/mm out of my numbers?
Can f9800 SELA be translated as MX10160?
My understanding is that selected Alpha are very good ones?

There's no way to infer actual specs out of the tube serial number short of hooking it up to a test set. It's probably close to somewhere between omnibus 6 and omnibus 7 specifications, but there's no way to tell without testing.

You can't translate a civvy tube to a mil contract tube, because they're totally different animals. Without a spec sheet who knows what's actually in it.

How does it look?

Many thanks for your quick answer.

Following a pic of the KM tube. In my opinion it is a 2004 tube.:

Here are 2 pics of another tube (ITT 272692-35 DC 0803) I can get. I think the tube is much better. After reading a lot in this forum I think it is a MX-10160C ITT autogated tube from 2008. Is it right???
Do the sound of the autogated tube annoying? I want to use the tube in a Mini14. Do you know if the tube is shock resistant?
Which tube should I choose?

Both of those are non-autogating tubes. Neither are mx-10160c tubes because they're non-autogating, they are, however, mx-10160 form-factor, if you want to call it that. The DC designation tells me they're not autogated power supplies. They're both F9800 civilian tubes made by ITT. You're reading the date codes correctly. I'd suspect these are just civilian tubes, and probably don't have the shock resistance you're looking for.

Military contract tubes are more my wheelhouse.

Hi gents
I am new here and already have some questions.
I've just picked up some interesting nv (ENVIS M703E) for relatively good price and i want to identify tube, that is in it.
I've made some research and found information, that most tubes in this units were F9800N from ITT or M890 from L3.
I think that this one is L3 M890, but not sure. I've also didn't find any specs of this M890 tubes, that were used in ENVIS M703E.

Also I've found some blemish on screen that i cant identify. Spots are pretty normal in this devices, but this looks like dying photocathode (dark area on the edge of image with distinct borderline), BUT it is visible even if the unit is OFF!
I don't think, that photocathode damage will be visible thru entire tube, to the screen when tube is off.

Sorry for crappy photo.
Please help.
Thanks a lot for any advise.
