I like that paintjob too.

Question for the hive:

I have found that some colors which are substantially concealed when viewed through NOD's are quite conspicuous to the naked eye [with enough ambient light available] and vice versa.  It seems to be all about [lack of] contrast which appears to be significantly different for the two modes of observation in given surroundings.  Has anyone else noticed this?

hoover, what'd you use for shock cord?
Link Posted: 10/19/2010 6:18:31 AM EDT
[#11]
For shock cord I used a piece of Coyote tan 550 cord with all of the small strings in the center removed. Once I had those strings removed I stretched it as much as I could to get it small enough to fit thru and then tied a knot in each end. It's different but it kind of sets them apart from any other pair. Unfortunately I didn't measure exactly how much cord I needed and ended up about 4" short...

I just got the norotos INVG mount, love it. The ability to just push it up to the side so I can quickly transition to my scope and how close in it stows to the helmet are ridiculously useful.

Ive used the wilcox before and really didnt like it at all, and I use the titanium norotos at work, but I much much much prefer the INVG after playing with it.

Very stable, I have used this helmet with both PVS 14 and a dual MUM system, still not as nice as my Ops-Core Fast Bump.

Thanks. I used some high speed pieces of printer paper ripped into different patterns for the masks. I just held them in place and sprayed (mostly on the paper). I also used Krylon camo brown and Khaki and OD Green. I also used Krylon camo sand dune for the spots and Skilcraft desert tan for the creamy looking tan. I tried to get it kinda close to multicam as I could with what I had. I need to get some medium brown on it too, but I am out of it and the store doesn't have any.

Heres my DIY helmet/ghetto stalker setup, half a pvs-5 and some ingenuity..

Decided to mess with helmet mounting..Don't hate on the Dragons, man LOL...Sorry about the fruity helmet, its all they had at Academy that would fit my fat melon head. It  has been painted black.

A simple angle brace from the hardware store, a lot of hammering and bending, a 1/2 inch riser, a few nutz-n-bolts and boom.. Works great after I spent an hour tweaking the angles to get the mono straight and true.

Since I have it on a quick release mount, it only takes a few seconds to go from helmet to rifle.  The angle bracket is very strong, and just happens to slip into a standard picatinny slot. I have done some mods since these photos added a bolt to ensure the riser doesn't fall off and retweeked the bends to match the contour of the helmet, added correct washers etc..

Total cost for entire mono/helmet setup is under  625 bucks.

I have a few custom machined mx9916 - c mount adapters that will allow a direct fit to the American Defense pvs-14 ring type quick release mount with no goofy spacers or nonsense. It a slick piece made of aluminum and will allow you to use LARGE lenses (75mm 3X or zoom type up to 300mm) on these cool little tubes. These obviously will only work on tubes still in the metal can.

I had the 2.5x magnifier on in this photo, makes it look a little long..

Aiming and illumination will be handled by these bad boys..

Laser devices ITAL HP's . Basically the good half of the DBAL unit. A single IR laser that will defocus into a 6 deg flood for illumination. They are switchable from 1mw to 35mw. VERY nice units. I had never seen them before either.

Lets put it this way, im not looking for peq-2 anymore, these things feel way more solid than the PEQ/PAQ units.  Im glad they found me..

where'd you score these from? I've been debating on DIY'ing an IR diode into the red laser version

The Ops-Core Henry is really comfortable and I like it a lot...for $230.  But,  for $44 the A Alpha Jump Helmet in my pics is just as comfy and functional. I own two with VAS shrouds and love them. Both are excellent choices.
