Just recently snagged a brand new PVS-31a. These absolutely do not do the tubes justice. They really should call this new stuff Gen 4. It blows the PVS-14 I’ve had for several years out of the water.

The moon was no where near full. You can see my pet mini-black panther (aka death dealer to anything under 5lbs) out stalking around with me. She acts like “ok cool now I have a night stalking buddy”

My death dealers like night walks too

Thanks for the pics, very interesting! Not that much footage through any PVS-31 out there. What is odd to my eye is the internal reflections - wonder why that wasn't eliminated from the completely new design eyepieces. That is something I hate the most about PVS-14 eyepieces.

Curious about the reflections you mention. I really haven’t noticed anything looking through them. Those pics where just hastily shot with my iphone holding it by hand behind one of the tubes.

When time allows can you describe what you are talking about?

Thanks

No problem, and probably simpler that you thought, but here's a mspaint illustration =)

In a mono that does not bother me at all, but with a bino I notice them a bit too much and get distracted especially if the reflections don't match. Helps a lot to bring the eye relief to such that you don't see the internals of the eyepieces, but I like to see the full image circle plus then I feel the eyepieces give a better image overall.

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that. Learned something new:)!

I have not had much time to play with these much, but like I said, they are awesome. I’ll try to snap a few better pics in the next few days.

Damn you all suck.  I have been jonesing for NV for a while. And of course the LE/MIL only stuff looks amazing.

I took these awhile ago through my DSLR. Still trying to figure out how to get the best image but these came out rather well I thought. NV is a TNVC “commercial spec” from a few years ago. This unit has been awesome and looks just as good in low illum situations as regular units. Lighting was with pretty good moon.

Photonis echo in dtnvg and an omni 7 in a pvs14 taken with a note 8, I will say the ability to portray quality through a cell phone pic favors the green phosphor over the white.

Thank you sir for providing these rare peeks through a 31A.

Your pics got me noticing that the eyepiece / something inside is quite different from legacy eyepiece design (plus the obvious lack of diopter adjustment). You don't see the "dead" area of the phosphor screen at all, it just cuts out right where the, what I would guess is, plastic ring starts. Still wondering why that material produces so much glare, otherwise it's really nice looking.

Would also seem the objective lenses and/or tubes are different as I can't see much if almost any vignetting (darker edges) in your pics even when boosted in photoshop.

Keep em coming, this is such a rare treat. Perhaps almost illegal for me to watch "through" your nice unit ;-)

PS. next step, please tear it down and show us the inside of the unit too. I am eager to know what the tube looks like - is it like the ANVIS-10 but just 18mm

I was told that taking a picture through gen3 NV and posting it online is an ITAR violation because foreigners can view it. Is there any weight to this?

What time and direction for milky way shot. I have not seen it like in the pics when using my 14's.
Does it only look like that only in the pics or can you see it like that with just looking through 14's

There are nights it just POPS out at ya - usually clear nights with little moon.  Two nights ago I was coyote hunting on the new moon and every time I chanced to look to the SW, the Milky Way knocked me on my ass...

And to me it always looks far MORE impressive thru the -14 than the pics.  I wish I had the photog skills to catch what my eye sees...

One I snapped a while back by holding the cell up to the -14, doesn't even come close to the firsthand view:

A few of my decent ones.  MOD3-B filmless WP, manual gain.  Taken by holding it up to a 10+ year old basic Canon digital camera.  The kind of common thing everyone had before cell phones took over everyday photoing.  Battery latch is broken, so I had a hell of a time trying to stay steady, line up the lenses, and keep the battery door closed all at the same time.  Didn't get great star pics as it's just not dark enough anywhere near here.  I was able to watch some of the recent meteor shower with it though, that was pretty damn cool.  Eventually hope to be able to grab some photos/video of that with some manner of camera adapter.
