Boiling water then Ed's Red.

CLP is good to use AFTER you use something else. It will NOT suffice on its own.

+1
and the windex works if I have to clean away from home where I don't have the hot water.

I use a mixture of half water, half ammonia. I swab the barrel out twice with it, then I run a lubed patch down it and that's it! The ammonia eliminates all the corrosive salts. But be careful not to get any on the woodwork as it will ruin the finish. b

Thanks everyone!!
Windex....or should I say "EZ Clean" (the ghetto brand) is working pretty good...it does have ammonia in it just like the real thing.

+1 on the Windex then Hoppes #9 can't go wrong doing that, unless the windex makes your gun so shining a bird tries to fly through it thinking its a window, like the commercial

Water+normal cleaning.

That's it, nothing else is required or more effective.

Yup, windex or water on everything that I think the corrosive salts may have touched (barrel, bolt, gas system if present), dry it up nice and then clean like normal.

WINDEX, (OR ACTUALLY A WINDEX KNOCK OFF) SPRAYED DOWN THE BORE AND A WIPE OF THE BOLT FACE, RUN A WET PATCH DOWN THE BORE AND DROP IT OUT THE MUZZLE, THEN A COUPLE SPRITZ'S OF BALLISTOL, WITH A WET PATCH OF IT DOWN THE BORE, ALL THIS DONE AT THE RANGE....THEN AT HOME, IT'S ED'S RED TILL THE PATCHES COME OUT CLEAN............

Stick the muzzle in the drain, put a funnel in the chamber, and pour half a teakettle of boiling water down. Then put the water on patches and run it through...works like a charm.

I clean out all the lose fowling first then use soap and warm water after that I use sweets7.62 cleaner then finish it off with clp. Works good I allso like the idea of just nuking the thing or maybe napalm down the bore just a thought.

CLP...clean, letit sit come backlater(2-4 days) run 1-2 patchs thru back into the safe.

reason i let it sit is so it eat thru all powder residue that the brushes dont get.. havent had rust yet,, even during canes,,no power 300000% humidty,, the butt plates rusted 1st.....go figure
