I just got my C&R and really like the looks of the FR-8's. Any out there?? I have scoured the usual purveyors from the C&R internet lists with no luck.

May have to scour the gunshows and such.

I haven't seen any for sale in the flyers for quite a while. You may have to do like I did. Go to a gun show and get lucky. The one I scored is absolutely gorgeous. The wood has a nice patina and isn't beat up in the least, and the barrel is a friggin' mirror. It kicks pretty good, but it is a nice rifle. I have really moved away from C&Rs in the past year, but I did just shoot it last weekend. What is the going price on a very nice FR8?

I walked past a really nice one for $260 a month or so ago. By time i realized how stupid I was it was gone.

There was one on gunbroker for 400

I think I can stumble on one just a tad better priced than that!!

Doc. What is a good price on a nice FR8?
Link Posted: 1/6/2006 8:41:48 AM EDT
well since u live in texas, there is a gun store in Plano, TX called Gunmaster that had an FR-8 for 350.
Link Posted: 1/6/2006 4:46:33 PM EDT
Glad I bought mine 10 years ago. $115. Works great for inert grenade launching. It's a good shooter too.
Link Posted: 1/6/2006 5:33:48 PM EDT
going rate is 200+ $

you wont find them in flyers,,or from places like AIM ,,sog or cai....
They were imported ONCE, and that was it. Whats here is here, there is no more.

best bet is to hunt around shows for them or to buy one online at the auction sites.

Demand for them is going up, prices will soon reflect that as well. Everyone here covets mine, I remember coveting it before I got it.

I find it surprising that the going price is so low considering the interest in them. Sooner or later it will start spiking.

How are the triggers on these rifles?

How are they to shoot, what's recoil like?

What do they weigh?

What do they weigh? Mine is 7lb 12-13oz.

How are they to shoot,Mine out shoots me, I pulled 1.5" groups with Portuguese surplus, and I am far from a marksman what's recoil like?Like the other guy said, healthy. I can't figure out why exactly, but other .308's I have shot were pretty softball in comparison. That said, it is not hard to pop through 100 rounds with it without wearing a heavy coat or padding my shoulder like I do when shooting my .300wm

What do they weigh?I ain't got an exact weight, but I will say it feels heavier than it looks to me and is the most "solid" feeling rifle I own.

I like mine alot, and it is basically a mauser 98 for the most part. I had bought a repro trench mag and fitted it, held 25 rounds of ammo, but the spot welds broke on it so I need to repair it before I put it on again. I have been debating sporterizing it, and if I had another I probably would. It has the makings for a heckuva all purpose boltgun.

I agree... If I could only bring one rifle to the range, this would be it. They are great to shoot... but like said above... If your going to put alot of rounds through one, dont do it in a t-shirt...That said, its feels MUCH nicer than my M44...

Yek...

What did you have to do to pull off the trench mag fit? I always have thought that the FR8 would be one tuff gun with a bigger mag on it... Would apreciate any insite ya might throw my way...

Picked up one at a gunshow last weekend, paid $150.

The stock needs refishing and the barrel will have to be set back, because of excessive headspace.
Bore is MINT.

I still think I did good, the last one I saw locally was reparked and the stock was refinished, the dealer would not budge on $350.

the mag replaces the floorplate, so it just pops right in, nary a problem, BUT, the mag was meant for the 8mm which is longer, and the magwell in the FR8 has a spacer in the front of it, and a similar spacer needs to be put in the front of the trench mag or else the rounds will hang up. I used some scrap metal and some hex screws, and then swapped the follower out of the trench mag with the slightly shorter follower that came with the fr8, assembles it all, and all was good, till the recoil broke some crappy spot welds on the front of the trench mag. I am just going to drill and tap and use some more screws to hold it together when I get the chance.

I do not know where to get the mags, i got mine from Numrich, but don't know if they still have them or not.

$280 for the FR8. Is that reasonable?

I picked up my first FR-8 at a gun show last weekend for $225 with bayonet and sling. It's pristine, there was one other than was pretty beat for $350. I've seen several on Gun Broker here lately that run from $250 to 400. I'm hoping the weather warms a little so I can go shoot it.
