Anyone know of an aftermarket receiver sight that fits the 308 Ishapore? There used to be 308#4ms around (conversion kits) but the only 308s around seems to have the #1MIII sights.

thanks

There aren't any modern ones, that I know of.

But, Parker Hale made diopter rear sights for the No1 rifles, that I believe will fit the No2A1. The designation for the receiver sight is PH5A, and you can find them on Ebay or Auction Arms.

Edited to add: Mojo sights makes a rear aperture sight for the No1 rifles now, you might look into those. Seems like an affordable compromise.

FYI: My 1985 Williams catelog lists a FP-SMLE for the #1MIII, but the current brownells does not, so I called them yesterday.  The only make one for the #4M1 now, but it can be used on the #1MIII if one mills a flat spot (tilt).

I think Scoutman was using these on his builds

my Fenian gun uses a Parker Hale 5A with the insert removed and threads drilled out

How hard was that rear sight to have installed?  Can any competent gunsmith do that?  I am in the process of building a scout out of a .308 ishapore and that setup is EXACTLY what I am looking for.  Also, how is that forward mount working for you?  I have one of those in the garage waiting to go on...

Thanks. J.

you have to drill and tap the receiver for the Williams, it would be a marked improvement over the flimsy attachment and poor alinement of the 5A.

Does this mean that the current FP-SMLE does not require milling the side of the receiver or is this the older model that is no longer available?

Tweak,

Do you know where the Williams sight mounts?  Does it mount to the rear receiver bridge and cover up the stripper clip guide?

Thanks.

You know, that reminds me, I sent money to a reputable guy in England for a Parker Hale 5C for my No4Mk1... and the bloke never sent it to me.  Geeze... if I could remember who it was...

Bet I know.
