Been on the fence with this one for a while, then the wife so a pic of one and said "thats an elegant looking rifle. Why dont you buy one?"

Now, I have a C&R license, so where do you guys recommend I purchase from? I see AIM surplus has them for $99 + $10 for handpicked. I want a really nice looking one. Any help is appreciated.

ps. These things are supposed to be really accurate, right?
Link Posted: 12/11/2005 2:35:39 PM EDT
No. They're horrible and unreliable. They'll sneak up and maim your children in the middle of the night. If you buy one, your hair will fall out and you'll become irreversibly impotent. Besides, they're all mine. I have dibs on every single one of them.
Link Posted: 12/11/2005 2:42:50 PM EDT
Yes, they're absolutely horrible. Don't you know the Swiss are known for making absolute crap!?!? You couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with one, if you were inside the barn!

(now, take the opposite of all that crap I just wrote, and that's what I really mean ;) )

You've convinced me that they're crap. Now, where to buy from?
Link Posted: 12/11/2005 3:21:24 PM EDT
the short answer

AIM
Walnut( oh ya might as well get the birch to. Ya will after the first one. get a matched pair)
llllloooooooootttttttts sssss of ammo.
no hand pick

after the first box fired you will be hocking your other stuff to buy more, You will be looking to build a new room addition to house the 7.5 ammo you buy.

They are fun to shoot and they go threw a box fast because they are such fun.

Gotta go with one of each....

One from AIM and one from Classic Arms. Make sure you get the soldier tags!

ETA: Oh yea, ask if they have Samco or Tennessee Gun imports, not the DAMN CAI with
the GIGANTIC billboard import marks. Those guys have RUINED about 50,000 rifles!
Link Posted: 12/11/2005 3:42:52 PM EDT
does aim have samco and tennesee imported guns? i bought one from them before cai added their big billboard and got a pretty good walnut one. i picked up my other 3 from allan also before cai added the billboard. i havnt bought one since they started the billboard but i wouldnt mind getting a few more if aim has them. one thing buying from allan is good because he will check for the but tag and his guns come with slings and muzzle caps too.
Link Posted: 12/11/2005 5:00:48 PM EDT
The AIM K31 I got was CAI, Classic Arms from Samco. Try calling them and asking though, they might have different importer rifles at both dealers.
Is Samco the importer the same as Samco Global Arms the dealer? Funny if they are because they sell the rifles for MORE than the dealers they supply!
Link Posted: 12/11/2005 5:42:39 PM EDT
If I call and order one from AIM, can I ask them for one with walnut, or is it luck of the draw with them? I want walnut, so where else can I get one?
Link Posted: 12/11/2005 6:01:07 PM EDT
You can get walnut from AIM for an extra $10. That is if I hadn't already claimed dibs on the entire world's supply. Don't violate my dibs, lest I shall smite thee.

Can't go wrong with a K31.

I just wish ammo was cheaper and the baynoets weren't as much(or more) as the rifle

Arent the K31's from Allans really expensive? Like twice the going rate? Are they worth that much?

You get what you pay for from Allans Armory. There or Simpsons Ltd.
Link Posted: 12/12/2005 4:20:50 PM EDT
They're like $250 bucks! And the photos dont look any better than the ones I see at gunshows for $109. I'm leaning more toward the AIM rifles. I just sent them my C&R, so I may order at the end of the week.
Link Posted: 12/12/2005 5:16:11 PM EDT
I got my first K31 from Simpson's LTD in 2000 and it was pristine. It was also $225. I have no idea what they have now but I imagine they are nice.

Give Frank a call at Deland Military Collectibles: 386-736-3849, rwalter1@hotmail.com

I can tell you that K31's like mine sell for $395 now; I presume since they are getting more difficult to find.

Anyhow, there you go.

As nice as your rifles are, my problem is that I am selling my Carcano cavalry carbine over on gunbroker and I will use the money from that sale to buy a K31. Unfortunately, Carcanos dont go for too much, so AIM is more in my budget.

K31's are addictive..I have a total of 3 now, and have gotten into reloading for them as well.

here is my initial two..a 1944 and a 1952 model along with M1918 bayonet and Helmet

and a closeup of all 3....a 1937 added to the first two.

Were their helmets the same for about 50 years or so, or did they go through changes around WWII?

they used that basic M1918 helmet a long time.....just before WW2 they were normally painted green....WW2 brought the flat black ,rough texture finish as seen in my photo. they also improved the suspension of the helmet around that time as well.

here is a pic of a modern military parade in Switzerland....it shows the late 1930's uniform and helmet color along with those spiked boots that has chewed alot of K31 buttstocks

I think they are AWSOME rifles and probably the best think going now for the price. These a mine with a 1896/11, 1911, and K11 carbine thrown in. I had about six others that got sold off. Trying to widdle down the collection and just keep the nicer ones. Got most from AIM (who I HIGHLY reccomend) and a few from FGS (?) That I don't recommend at all. Swissrifles.com is the mecca for Swiss rifles. BigLee is awsome. Terry

Very nice.

Im working on a similar collection trying to find K31's without the stupid "billboard style" import marks.

Look at the Wood on those Rifles - the forestock - wood surrounds the front sight. The LEFT hand finger grove is FORWARD of the ejector port by several inches. These guns (forward stocks) are Different that the K-31's we have imported. Very interesting.

Those are K11 carbines. They use the older style action and mags. I think these might be my favorites Terry

OK, the deed is done!
I bought one off Auction Arms. A pretty one with a walnut stock. Its supposed to arrive middle of this week.
Now for the ammo: Where do you guys buy your ammo? Gunshows or internet? The cheapest internet site I found is AIM, they have it for $156/case + shipping.

Here it is! Walnut stock required a fair amount of work to get the dings out, polished the metal with brownells cold blue to thicken the finish up. Barrel and muzzle are perfect. Now I want one in Birch!
I still havnt completely finished the stock yet. It will require a few more coats of BLO.
