just got a new to me 10/22 from my father, he had a scope on it and had used lock tight under the scope mounts, when he gave it to me he kept the scope and rings and I don't plan on putting a scope on it, so how do I get the lock tight off the finish?

brake cleaner

loc tite also makeas a solvent type remover but im sure brake cleaner will get it.
