Seeking opinions on bolt action 22LR rifles. I am not a "top of the line" kind of guy. In the running at present are Marlin 880SQ, Savage Mark II (w/heavy barrel), Ruger 77/22.

Do the mags from a 10/22 interchange with the 77/22? Any other parts interchangable?

I don't think you can beat the Marlin for the money. Everyone that I've heard of having an 800sq said they loved it. If you want wooden stock/lighter bbl three's the 25N.

I like the 77/22 but Rugers tend to be overpriced IMHO.

Savage makes accurate rifles, but they're not pretty!

Have you considered a CZ452?

I second the CZ 452. They have the quality and look of the 77/22 for about ½ the price.

The mags for the 10/22 and 77/22 will interchange and function in the other rifle, but the base profile is different so they won't fit flush in the other rifle.

Yet another vote for the CZ452. You can get the the economical (Birch?) stocked version called the "trainer" for $200.

I hate when people do this, but I'm going off the board for a Romanian .22 Trainer.

Yeah that Romanian Rifle is a great rifle.

Marlin model 880. Don't bother with the SQ. I've had mine for years and thousands of rounds w/ cheap bulk ammo and bad cleaning jobs.

It is still the most accurate rifle I've ever fired.

I have a CZ 452 with Tikka mounts and a Bushnell scope. It is not the 'American' model, but resembles an Anschutz. It was only $189 at Turners in California. The rifle is a tack driver. It has an adjustable trigger, but I didn't have to touch mine. By tack driver, I mean shooting clay pidgeon leftovers on the berm at 100 to 140 yards--tackdriver.

I really like the looks of the 77/22, but have not found one for a decent (steal) price.

The CZ 452 line is great. Ive got the 452 varmit with BKL rings and a Weaver V-24. The trigger pull was good but after installing a spring kit from Brookie at RimfireCentral.com it is great.
Off sandbags at 50 yards 5 shot groups of wolf, Federal Gold, and Winchester Dyna Points are almost always under 5/8 inch.
IMHO its the best bolt rimfire under 350 you can get.

Hope this helps

usma89,

I just ordered a Bushnell 4-12x40 A/O Sportview from SWFA (they have a close-out quantity for $39.00) to go with my Talley rings from Brownells. What scope and ring combo are you going to use?

I have a set of 3/8 Kelby rings that I am going to use with a Leupold 6x that I have leftover from a trade.

I tried some BLK rings on the 452, but they did not hold, so I broke down and bought some CZ steel rings from my dealer, they are great but expensive at 35 bucks. I am using a Weaver 3x9 on my current rifle and get groups of 1/2-1" with all types of ammo. I found that this rifle really likes CCI minimag. It prints 1/2 " groups all the time.

Here's a pic of my CZ Varmint targets at 1" spots, 50 yards. Benchrest of course.

Evening, the only .22 that I've kept is an Anshutz 1451 with a decent Bushnell scope, went out last week and had a ball shooting berdan 30.06 shell cases at 50 yds. Finally found someting to do with old brass.
