How do most of you put them on?  Looking at the HSGI W-satch models or Eagle plate carrier with cummberbund for examples.  It looks as if the cummberbund has side release buckles...do you put it on over your head and then connect the buckles on the cummberbund?  Or does it have buckles or zippers somewhere else and I'm just not seeing them?  I'm familiar with the Tac vests that go on like a jacket but have never had the chance to play around with the plate carriers.

I got my wee adjusted out to fit, and now I just pop the right hand side bucke, and drop it on over my head, then strap in.

Is velcro the only thing holding the cumberbund to the actual plate carrier?

Yes, when you secure the rig on you.  But, as it is the CB is not "attached" at all to the PC and can be removed by simply sliding it out of the rear PC tunnel.  Once it's removed you have the standard PC that is secured via the buckles on each side.
