I am thinking of buying a Blackhawk or Eagle assault vest. It will be used mostly for AR mags, but I will occasionally want to carry some 2 3/4" shotshells. I am leaning towards a vest with 6 double rifle mag pouches instead of a rifle/shotgun vest with the intention of using one or two pouches for shotshells. Has anyone else tried this? Does it work well?

How many shells are you planning on carrying? I have a BHI SAW pouch, that clips to my belt, with the detachable top. Holds 25+ shells.

You can use a pull out tray for the shells. They are strips of webbing that slip intothe pouch for easy access to your shells. They are a little hard to find as there aren't many companies that make them.

Thanks. Do you have them?

I use the pull out trays and love them.
Only problem i have had was training with them in a class. I could not reload the trays as fast as everyone eles who just dumped rounds loose in a big pouch. SOE makes them they are pricey but very well made.
