Those are pretty good 870 clones.  Got mine at a pawn shop for less than a c-note.

Didn't gussy it up with new furniture though.

Is it really being frugal buying two cheap shotguns and spending all that money on accessories?  There's nothing wrong with the H&R Pardner other than having to make sure you really work the action hard everytime, but I'd prefer an older 870 Wingmaster or a Mossberg 590 for the same money.

Stopped by my local shop today and found this BPS Field in 20 gauge with a 24"  barrel.

$375.00.  No box and no wrench and an unknown choke in the barrel.

In good shape, some light surface rust on the receiver from someone goon-handing it and not wiping it down.  So, bought some shells and immediately ordered a wrench and choke set.

I'm 500 in and pretty happy.

Thanks.  I'm a sucker for used pump shotguns reasonably priced.

Only thing I wish it had is the upland (English) stock.  But for 375 it was a solid buy.  I'll troll ebay and hope one pops up for not too much money.

Stock came back, here was a quick shot from earlier:

The raised cheek means my face lines up just right for the ghost rings.  However, I had to cut the stock bolt down to get it to fit, and there's a hair bit of wobble .  But the LOP is perfect, and I like the 1898 Krag Jorgensen sling swivel for function and character.

I've already ordered a couple of washers that I'm hoping will solve it; keeping my fingers crossed that the stock bolt is just a couple threads too long to get a 100% stock to receiver fit.

And brownells now no longer lists the heat shield I ordered on their website, and the one for the thicker 590A1 barrel is difficult to find in stock anywhere (along with the spacer and screws, etc).  But I kinda dig it without the heat shield, so I won't be cringing when I look at it.

I'm just kind of a Completionist.  Once the stock is suitably fit, then I'm thinking I'll order a quality leather sling and butt cuff/shell holder.  So never fear, more pictures will be coming as I finish setting it up.

I ordered the trap stock from Havlins at the same time I ordered that forend.  If I can get the fitment sorted, I think it's ideal for my reasons.

Four evening's efforts, some washers from Numrich, and two trips to Home Depot later, and I solved my stock wobble problem.  Much tighter fit now:

Now that stock is good & cinched on there.

Ignore my mess.

I already ordered the sling I want to use, and in a few more weeks I'll order some more parts to keep this project moving along.  It'll have some subtle tweaks from a typical retrograde to make it truly "mine", but I'm really enjoying the fatter/oversized "trap" stock with the taller cheekpiece, as it mates nicely to the GRS.

Thanks!  I've still got some plans for it that involve high quality leather goods, a backordered heat shield, and a very small 1913 rail adapter piece that'll really make it be as modern & useful as I can make it, while still retaining some personalized old-school touches.

I enjoyed incorporating modern technological solutions with more classic aesthetics to suit my needs.  New solutions to old problems, coupled with some old solutions for the same.

I'll keep adding images as my parts come together.

I scored the stock, forend, and tacstar adapter pretty cheap. I swaged out the dimples of my magazine tube and installed a Chaote+2 extension and purchased a magpul clamp to secure the extension and to act as a sling mount.

Today's pawn shop pick up...Mossberg 3000 Police.

Judging by the wear on the top of the reciever, but the lack of wear inside the receiver and on the bolt and action bars, it looks to have been locked in a cruiser mount for awhile but shot very little.

Hopefully I can find a magazine extension...these guns haven't been made since the mid to late 80's, but Choate shows them 'In-stock" so we'll see how accurate their inventory system is.

I've been wanting a "beater" 12g...the last one I bought for that purpose turned out to be too nice, but this one looks to be an excellent candidate.

Fun Factoid.

The "Mossberg 3000 Police Shotgun" is actually the later version (changed the roll marks) of the Smith & Wesson 3000 Police Shotgun.

Thus, accessories for S&W 3000 will exchange - Choate made both top & side folding stocks & magazine extensions years ago - but don't know if they still do or do not.

Anyway - a Cool Police Shotgun that had a Pump Through feature in the case of a shell jam that was "superior" to the Remington 870 of it's day.

Yep...I knew of the S&W version, but until today had never heard of the Mossberg version. Choate lists the magazine extension as in-stock on the website under S&W 3000...hoping they actually still have some around the warehouse.
