Something you dont see much of any more, Mossberg 'jungle gun' LE marked with the mossberg stamped folder.  Traded into it recently and probably gave it too much value but I like oddball guns from the 80s-90s.

Got an 590 Retro. I prefer the 870, but haven't found a good deal on an 870P, so I went ahead and got the Mossberg.
Took the heat shield off as I'm not a fan of the look.

Finally found a vintage magazine extension for my 1965 M1200. Apparently the threaded portion of the mag tube was shorter on the first couple of years production of 1200's, which I found out when I ordered a new Choate extension. The shorter threads cause a gap at the tube/extension junction, causing the follower/spring to catch and not feed. I placed "WTB" for an older Winchester extension on several forums and finally got a bite. Polished blue and just the right amount of patina to match the gun.

Beautiful.  I've got a 1200 I want to SBS.  Learned on a winchester 12ga and shot it and hunted with it for a long time.  I'm sure it's because of that that I love the controls locations on winchesters.

The Agency Arms forend is what you seek. I’ve been running one for over a year and it’s solid, ergonomic, and great for mounting a light. I run an M300 on an Arisaka Mlok mount on mine.

I only have 2 complaints about the Agency rail. There is a TINY TINY TINY bit of wiggle (at least on mine - and it may be my fault - which I should tear it down and re-install it to be sure), and the M-Lok slots immediately over the pistons is pretty much useless. The rail is so close that M-Lok accessories will not install here, as they hit the piston, and there isn't enough room even if the screws are cut down.

I look at that JC Higgins and think, " that would be a good brush gun for shooting quail."  Must be the vent rib sight.

Looks like the chop was well done.

Yeah it is pretty handy now, and I kinda dig the vent rib too lol.  It had a 28” barrel or something like that, had the built in choke. He said he’d never use it like that so had a Smith chop it and put a bead sight on it.

One of these days I'll send one of my 870 barrels off to be chopped to 21" and threaded for chokes to use as a quail gun.

With modern wads and loads long barrels are less useful for close wing-shooting.

I like the feel of the dang hand guard, just not the wobble in the mount and I don’t know if there’s anything that can be done about that with the method it’s attached. I’m surprised surefire hasn’t done anything for these

FYI your JC Higgens Model 20 was made by High Standard, not Mossberg.
That may make your buttplate search easier.

Has a definite Miami Vice - RoboCop vibe to it...

Clarence Boddicker's Autoloader shotgun in RoboCop was a Mossberg 5500 (predecessor of the 9200) with a sidewinder stock kit

I got one of those Remington Turkey barrels (Mossyoak pattern) thru the Remington store on close out over a decade ago.  Paid $75 for it with a fiber optic rifle sights.  Also works well with my Rem Choke rifled choke.  Barrel I took to Alaska twice for my 870.

Ok.  I thought about that but I have some concerns.

1.  My 20 gage 870 is an old large frame so new production LW barrels will not fit.

2.  I have only seen the turkey barrels with the bullshit express finish and all my 870s have a blued finish, as  is proper and correct.  I cannot abide that crinkly, rusting, ugly finish. Finally, the crinkle-rust finish wouldn't match the rest of the gun.

I keep hoping that I'll find an old special field on the cheap at a gunshow or small shop.   Even better would be an 1100 or 11-87 special field.

All that said, my father has one of those turkey guns circa 1989ish and it's a good gun.

Finally, I think even if I found a blued 21" barrel with Rem Choke it would cost more than the gun itself.

So, I'll probably send out a couple spare barrels one of these days.

That's a lot of words to say Mcculver5 is a cheap, opinionated jerk.

My 2003 870 Express doesn't get enough love, but I'd like to change that.  As it currently sits:  Speedfeed (non speed-feeding) youth/short stock & forearm, Mesa Tactical 4-rd side saddle, SGT/Wilson big safety (just changed over from a Vang), Volquartzen extractor, Gear Sector sling... and that's about it.  I may have changed out the mag spring a few years back, but I can't remember.

Old 500 I've had since I was a teenager (it was one of the combos with the 18" & 28" barrels).  It's got some wood I picked up somewhere along the way, and when I was young and dumb(er), I stripped the blue and "finished" in Brownell's dark gray parkerize Alumahyde.

Before the Retrograde was released I turned my PGO Mossberg 500A into a retroish trench gun by installing a 20” 590A1 barrel and heat shield and retro wood police furniture. If I can ever find them I’ll add a metal safety and trigger assembly.

I just picked up this 870 Wingmaster at a pawnshop for $150 and made a few changes.

It hasn’t been reamed, just cut down. I’m looking for a 18.5 Wingmaster bead or rifle sight barrel to eventually replace it with. Once I find one I’ll list the vent rib here cheap unless you’re still interested in it. I found an old police forearm, now I just need a factory top folder and mag extension.
