I am looking at the Remington 1100 and the Remington 870.  Both with Ghost Ring Sights.  Based on my review of the Remingtonle site I'm think of either the 11-87 # 9849 or the 870 #4449.

Which one would you recomend?  Is there a different shotgun you would suggest instead?  Also how much do these cost?

Thanks for your advice.

You can't go wrong with either Remington gun.

The new 1100 Tactical looks awesome.

Have a look at these Reminton Tactical Shotguns

If you are into used guns, check out an older Wingmaster.  They are absolute bargains compared to a new 870.  In the past 4 months, I have bought 2 Wingmaster in excellent shape for $220.  One even had a factory magazine extension on it.  So for less than a Express 870, you can have a nicely blued gun with a metal trigger guard (vs. plastic).  Mine came with a 18 & 20" barrel.  But many of them have unribbed 26-30" that are very easy to cut down.  There are very little that wear out or go wrong with an 870, so it isn't a crap shoot as it can be with other used guns.

You may reconsider the ghost rings on a stricly home defense gun.  I don't think they are a good return for the money.  While I have ghost rings on my gun, a bead is quite a bit quicker when it's up close.  At 7yards, the GR sights actually slows me down compared to the bead.  I wished I put the money into a Surefire light.  I have one on an Ithaca 37 and it is increadibly handy at night.

Thank you for that! I couldnt agree more...so many people are talking about GR sights and even eothingys that they are putting on thier HD shot guns...IMHO thats a waste of $$. I say get yourself a nice tru-glo bead and a surefire light and you are good to go. Check out these lights... Tac Lights

Hope this helps...

870 police with 7 round extension.  Put a flashlight on it and you are good to go.

I say put a flashlight on it, because shooting a long arm with a non-mounted light sucks, and darkness is a fact for 1/2 of the day, and most of the time you are home (unless you work nights)  when you are using it for Home defence.

Since someone mentioned older guns why not pick up a Rem 11-48,or a Rem 11!

You can get either one for around 150 to 200 bucks!

Either one is a recoil gun so the barrel can be cut down to 19 inches, and the stock shortened(to just inches of the slide recoil rod!!

You end up with a Bonnie&Clyde type 5 round auto!!!
