When it comes to the Remington 870, I understand where the popular 18" length barrel came from...minimum legal length. And I understand where the common 12.5" length barrel length came from for short barreled shotguns...cut flush with the end of the magazine cap. But why did the 14" become so popular? I am a huge fan of it, but I am just curious where the idea of 14" came from. Anybody know?

14.5 will hold 5 rounds with a flush mag tube.

14.5/2.75=5.27
