With the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the M1911 approaching, it is none too soon to begin a push to see John M. Browning honored for his accomplishments, both a gun designer and as a patriot, by having his portrait on a postage stamp. John Moses Browning and his famous Model 1911 .45 Automatic, to be issued on the 100th anniversary of the adoption of that weapon by the US Army.

Browning's contribution to the security of the United States extended far beyond the M1911 pistol, of course. He also designed the M1917 machinegun, which we desperately needed on our entry into World War I, the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle, and the M1919 medium machinegun to name a few. All of these weapons soldiered in World War II and on through the Korean War, and some of them were still in use during the Viet Nam war.

Browning also designed the M2 .50 Caliber Browning Machinegun, which is still in service today.

Given his outstanding contributions to the security of this country, it would be an insult to him and to the men who used these weapons to defend this nation not to honor him.

This is the information which was received from the USPS, regarding the nomination process:

We have a Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee made up of non-postal personnel who select all new stamps that we issue each year. Please send your suggestion to the following address:

Everyone should contact the USPS, and make a plug for JMB's inclusion. I suspect there is a long line of people who are being considered, so let's get started now.

I hate to say this, but I doubt that John Moses Browning will ever be on a USPS postage stamp. Not that I disagree with you about the man deserving one but, the US Post Office honoring a man who made firearms??? The USPS is so PC, I bet Hillary (the Hideous Beast) Klinton gets a postage stamp before JMB does.

ETA: your link is dead by the way.

Funny what you said about Hillary, reminds me of what I said to my dad he was up in NY doing some work with his company anyway.

I asked him if he had his hand gun with him and he laughed and said " Yea, Hillary'd love that. "

I said " Well you know, if you do you do know you burn churches and eat babies. "

He said, " Well that's a given. "
