This past weekend I picked up a SW1911SC and am really happy with it, but it is different than the 1911s I am used to. One thing I have found is that I can pull the trigger, without engaging the grip safety, and the hammer will fall. It won't ignite a round thanks to the firing pin block, but the hammer falls nonetheless. This is different than my Springfield 1911s, where the trigger cannot be pulled without engaging the grip safety, and it freaked me a out a little bit when I discovered it while breaking it down for cleaning.

Is this normal, or do I need to talk to S&W?

It is not supposed to do that.  Call S&W for a free repair trip.
