There was talk on here a few years ago about the “2000 round challenge”. It kind of intrigued me so after breaking my Les Baer UTC in I decided to try it.

Today I hit 2050 rounds without cleaning it. It’s been a large dose of my 230gr FMJ and 200 gr LSWC reloads mixed with some factory FMJs and hollow points.

I’ve had zero malfunctions since the last cleaning, actually I’ve had zero malfunctions since I picked the pistol up a year ago and I’m approaching 5k.

I know CSB

I like seeing guns getting shot a lot......

Congrats all around on it making the grade.

I used to be the guy that cleaned my guns after every range session. Eventually, I figured out it's just not necessary and I wipe them down every 1000 rounds now.

What lube? Did you relube?

I'm impressed. Nice looking gun.

My EDC is a loaded that I typically clean every 500 just out of boredom

Excellent, congrats. Nothing like getting a little confidence with your firearm.  2000 round challenge was made "famous" by the late Todd Green who started Pistol-forum

I lube the bushing and hood after every trip and run a snake through it.  Detail strip clean every year.

Yeah I relubed at 1k. It didn’t need it was just more of a reflex on my part. I use slip 2000

Which slip2000? The ewl, the ewl30, or the grease?

I use the grease on my other 1911s but the fit is so tight on the Baer it pushes most of it out so I just use the oil.

Curious as to what the rear rails look like and the internals around the disconnector, breach face and extractor.

Thanks. And for the pics. That stuff is really holding on if it still looks wet after over 1k.

It must be because I carry mine that oil just doesn't seem to last.

I'll try that stuff to see how long I can get it to last.

I carry it but just on weekends and evenings. I can’t carry at work so I leave my G43 in the console and leave the Baer at home. Those pics were after I went to the range today and added a little lube. Didn’t look much worse before though. I’m sold on Slip 2000.

Until it starts getting sluggish or I need to replace the recoil spring.

I do wipe he outside down so I don’t look like I’ve been working on a tractor when I pick it up.

wow, looks pretty damn clean given the round count.
I did the 2k challenge with a 1911 years ago, was a thick caked mess on the inside. Nice to see it running well.

About 2 years ago I switched over to Synthetic Deisel Motor Oil. I figured if it was good enough for filthy running internal combustion diesel engines, it's probably good enough for my handguns. I have never been happier. I shoot at least once a week; an average of about 1500 rounds per month. Over the last 30 years I have tried every lube under the sun. The just don't stay put. I ran white lithium grease for the last bunch of years with pretty good success. The Diesel oil just stays put, no matter how dirty the guns get. It is still on the surfaces doing its job. Depending on the gun, I usually clean between 500 to 1000 rounds, sometimes more. Since I switched over to Synthetic Diesel motor oil my guns have never run smoother or better. Cleaner too.

Also a quart should last your lifetime. If not, two will for sure. So invest the $7 to $14 bucks and don't look back.

I like Slip because it's non-toxic, doesn't smell, doesn't stain, and makes clean up so easy. I figure $14 a year for something I trust isn't going to break me. I know a IDPA GM that uses chain saw bar oil. Now that stuff stays put.

You should try that without re-lubricating it.

My Colt went 2k rounds that way. I didn't keep pushing it past that, but it went well. 2k rounds in a month.

I never really counted rounds but used to run my ole bullseye tightened comped race guns about 200+ rounds every day until they looked so dirty they had to be cleaned.  This was always a week or more.  I'd rack the slide and lock it back, then put a drop of Breakfree CLP in each slide rail groove, a couple on the locking lugs and one on the barrel/bushing fit surface before starting practice for the day.  Learned this from J. Michael Plaxco.

Once dirty enough to be cleaned I'd take it to work and strip it down and run it through the parts washer and blow it dry with compressed air, re-lube and go to the range.

A properly functioning 1911 will run dirty longer than you think it will.

Hell yeah solid work.

I've got a Baer UTC has about 1,000 rounds through it, likely been cleaned 20 times.
1 mag or 100 rounds, I just have to.

Great Pics!

I’ve ran my LB up to 3K with CLP, a bore snake and a silicone cloth - Smooth Sailing.  I think some LB owners “over clean” their guns and fuss a bit too much

I’ve been thinking about WWI a lot recently. You never see many endurance test replicating the trenches. I think the reliability of a 1911 has to be one of the best.

Just stopping in to say I love the looks of the blued Baers. All the stuff I want in a nice 1911. Good bluing, the tight GI style slide serrations and none on the front with some good front strap checkering. Throw an ambi safety on it for my leftard hand and I'd be happier than a pig in cake flavored shit.

The Custom Carry model has a ambi safety. You can order with or without FCS.  From what I’ve seen from other pics and my own the bluing doesn’t hold up that well but I love mine.

Couldn’t take it anymore, cleaned it today after 2450 rounds. Zero malfunctions. I replaced the recoil and fp spring while I had it apart. Pistol has a total of 4400 rounds through it.

Thanks for posting pics.

I just got my Springer Pro, and put the first 200 rounds through it yesterday.

I have seen this thread before, and I considered doing the same with my new pistol.

I'm the guy who has never put a dirty gun in the safe, ever.  My guns are white-glove inspection ready after shooting, always.

So, after fighting the urge, less than 24 hours later, my Pro has been thoroughly cleaned and re-lubed.

But I salute those who can do it.  I just can't.

Still an awesome run!  Maybe you could've reached 2800 consecutive shots w/o failure?

You've inspired me to start a run on one of mine. Just hit 623 rds fired.

Yeah, I know, got a wayz to go yet! LOL
