How are the Sig 1911's?

I have a Sig TacPac. It’s the basic model, but it’s a great shooter.

Usually well built guns. Some guys don’t like the non uniform slide demensions and external extractors. The ones I’ve seen on the range all ran fine.

This '09 manufacture Sig Compact Stainless has become an accurate, reliable favorite.

Calling that a 1911 is like calling a Silverado a Ford.

I obviously am not extremely knowledgeable about them. I take it there are some differences. Please explain to me. Thank you for the help

Some people just hate the fatter Sig slide profile.

Some just hate the external extractor.

Some just hate the Series 80 firing pin block.

If God (or JMB) had wanted these things on a real 1911 he would have put them on it.

Sig 1911s are still 1911s.

I put a short trigger in my C3 right after l got it and different stocks.  Didn't have to order special parts just for Sigs.

I love my C3. It didn't like Speer Gold Dots when new but mad never had a problem with Fed. HSP. Now that it's been shot maybe it'll shoot Gold Dots now.  I need to find out some time.

It not really "fatter", just has step cuts in it and the top profile is a different radius.  No problems with mine in a leather holster (Texas Strong Side).

So I bought a Sig 1911 XO in black.  I was impressed how slick it was.  Paid $800.

Couple of questions;  I am coming off of a Glock run for the last 6 or so years.   So please excuse my ignorance.

I'd like to get a magwell installed.  Who/how do I go about this?  I also took it apart and saw that it had an ISMI green spring.  What weight is that?   I run those in all my Glocks, so it was an easy spot.   Any other upgrades you guys have done?

Any kydex guys making holsters for them?  TIA

Any 1911 mag well will fit your new Sig.  And any 1911 smith can install it.

Aliengear holsters have hybrid kydex holsters to fit the Sig profile.  I think they have started to make owb holsters too. I find their own v.3 holster to be very comfortable.

I also have a Sig XO. On mine I put on a Smith and Alexander 1 piece mainspring magwell. Just take the guts out of you mainspring housing and put it in the new magwell and reinstall. Here's my XO.

I carried a TacOps at work for awhile and it was an absolute tack driver.  The reasons that I stopped carrying it had nothing to do with the firearm itself.

The last thing I need is another 1911, but I really want a railed .45ACP model to go along with my railed 9mm, and that TacOps is nice.

I used a Raven Concealment that I modified to fit. Very little mod needed, mainly was for the threaded barrel.

Thank for the heads up.  Is it wearing the rounded slides edges hard?  Heard that may be a concern.

Nothing I see yet, but I don't actually carry it that often. The way I modified the holster also contoured it to the slide more though.

Boil water, stick the holster in for a few seconds, then slowly insert pistol. Remoulds the kydex.

Another nice thing I like about the TacOps/Sig 1911 is I bought a non threaded barrel for carry use, and it was drop in. I'm sure they did that on purpose

I have had two of them, and they are great shooters.

The Sig external extractor is a more robust design than the internal, and most people who hate it is for purely emotional reasons.

With that said, I do hate the slide profile.  I prefer kydex over leather and I refuse to buy special holsters to accommodate for it.  I wish Sig made more of the "traditional" versions.

I paid $1149 for this one NIB and it compares favorably in fit and finish to my Master Shop SIGs each costing several times its price.

It's been perfectly reliable and extremely accurate as well and it runs as smooth as silk.

While not a "traditional" 1911, they are still a 1911, and very reliable and accurate. I've this one for a year or so and it has been perfect, no issues of any kind. I do prefer the traditional look but this one shoots so good I can't get rid of it.
