I was wondering if anyone had ever seen, in person, a suppressed Makarov? I've seen the picture of the suppressed Mak-style picture on makarov.com, but it appears to be a variant of the pistol with only a few common parts. Has anyone ever tried to silence a Russian/Bulgie/E. German Mak with a 9x19 suppressor?

I remember reading once that it wasn't that quiet, possibly due to the pistol design.

I guess you can't get 9x18 in subsonic (I've never seen any). 9x18 probably goes supersonic out of the barrel, right? which means you'd have to have subsonic to make it reasonably quiet...

sounds like a good project...maybe if someone gives me some info or advice I'll give it a try...

Actually after some research I saw the 9x18 is subsonic out the pistols, so it seems like it should suppress OK...

Keep in mind that 9x18 bullets are a larger diameter than 9x19 bullets.

9x19= .355-.356"
9x18= .363" +/-

I did not think of that...obviously an excellent point. I wonder what the best suppressor choice would be given that?

Of course I don't have a threaded barrel on my IJ-70 18AH right now, and since Makarov.com no longer carries them (says the co. went out of business) it could be tough to get one...

Well VAhunter...

I think you need to just sell me that Makarov, and not worry yourself about it anymore

i have seen versions of the Stechkin that were suppressed but never a makarov.

I'm sure there are other people like this...but once I buy a gun I keep it. Indefinitely. Unless of course you're offering an absurd amount of money...

Did the Stechkin's only come in select-fire or are there semi-auto only versions?

It was FAC, IIRC.

I remember seeing an article way back when about suppressing a Mak. Has anyone run across it?

Also, has anyone run into a site that has quality threaded barrels in 9x18? What is the best aftermarket barrel brand available to Makarovniks?

If you're going through all the trouble to acquire a legal suppressor for a Mak, perhaps you should ask about threaded barrels with the company you're getting the suppressor from.

If you can find an extended barrel for your Mak, you could always find a gunsmith or machinist who would cut the threads for you. You'll just have to tell them what kind of threads to cut.

FAC and another outfit (I think the name had some kind of bird name in it or the word RED) used to sell extended and threaded barrels.
There was a story going around about a DA getting shot with a Makarov up in Washington state (if I remember correctly) and one of our Gov. agencies checking the purchase records of FAC for anyone who bought one of the barrels. If so, this might be why FAC no longer sells them (I don't actually know if they do or do not).

Sportsman's Guide lists threaded barrels on the website, but I don't know if they're in stock.

are those made by FTF?

I do not know. Why don't you call them?

Cuz I don't want one.

Now I wonder who could make a suppressor for one if money wasn't an issue?

9x18 being different in outside diameter than 9x19................actually larger.

Saw two suppressed Mak's in Iraq. One had a fat can with markings I thought were Russian. Turns out it was Polish, thats what the guy from ISG(Iraqie Survey Group (feds)) said. Other was a unmarked shop made one. Can was light, baffle looked like an H&K one I've seen for the MP5K. I didn't get to shoot ithas
