Thanks for the info. There is info on the web for this C96 but not much about the serial number range.  It looks like it has been reblued, nice job done.  It is all matching, the 3 digit serial number made me wonder if it was an original or one of the copies.

Without close up photos I am willing to be it was locally made by a home or village arms maker.  I saw a bunch of Chinese made Broomhandles in a warehouse near the Atlanta airport once, and the owner explained how during WW2 and during the Rebellion all kinds of cottage industry gun makers made Broomhandle and Hi Power clones.  It was what they had to make patterns from.  I suspect the serial number was made up.
