got a chance at one - the compact model - for $339 layaway or for $285 cash out the door. its in good to very good condition - a little holster wear on the slide and dirty. everything else looks tight. local pawn shop - good deal?

Sounds like a good deal to me.
I got my G23 for $555 brand new.

Sounds good to me as well. The 23 is selling for IIRC $389 in the new CDNN catalog for used, good condition. Tack on dealer markup and tax and you're in the mid-4's.

I'd buy it if I were you.

Academy Sports has new Glock 23s for $499

That is cheaper than I have seen a .40 Glock in a long time. I'd sure grab it and run for the door at that price.
