I have a SA 1911 A1 Mil-Spec, and curretnly have the Hogue black rubber checkered grips on it.  I love the grips, as they are very comfortable to handle, but I think some wood grips might make it look a little better.

If you've got some good photos of any 1911 w/ wood grips, please post and let me know what kind of grips they are.

Thanks in advance!

The only photo I have of one of my 1911s with wood grips is on the ar15.com photo server which isnt working.  I had some NICE laminated Rosewood grips from Hogue on my Wilson Service Grade Protector.  They were a nice red/brown color.  I dont like wood on my hard use guns, but if I did, Id go with the laminates for strength.

What are some of the drawbacks you've seen?

Open carry.  Bumped them into a couple door jams on cars and anything that gets in the way.  Ive cracked quite a few pairs of wood grips.  I switched to Navidrex Micarta from Brownells.

For everyone else...  SA Milspec Parkerized with Hogue Cocobolo smooth grips.  (I put the black plastic checkered back on for now... I want to get some checkered ebony grips or something... )

Thanks guys!  If anyone has more, by all means, keep 'em coming.

I really like the Rosewoods and the Cocobolos.  I really wish I could see them in person before I buy them though.  They seem like they can vary a good deal w/ the shades even though they're the same type of grips.  Is that the case, or is that just variance of color quality w/ the different cameras guys use?

This one's been carried almost every day for the last 15 years, and seen a fair share of rounds fired through it.  It's held up pretty well.
