I can think of a few major camps...

- Hi Power
- Glock
- Berretta / Taurus model 92
- S&W earlier model semi's

With so many favored defense rounds in recent years, the 9mm has really declined in popularity.
Still, its a fun, cheap round to plink with. Way cheaper than .45ACP or .40S&W.

Light recoil, cheap ammo, accurate fast round....for a good range gun its still an awesome caliber.
What are you favorite 9mm versions for target plinking at the range?

For carry, given that you might choose other calibers, if you HAD to pick a 9mm, what would you (do you) carry? Why? (weight, capacity, size, concealability)

I would carry the Hi Power.  In fact, I DO carry a Hi Power, in .40 S&W.

I will have to agree with M4arc.

Check out the Springfield XD9.  I carry the subcompact version and find it accurate, reliable (after 1,000 or so rounds) and light.  And it's not too expensive.

I prefer Luger for its grip and trigger pull. One of the greatest pistols of all time and of course it is the orginal 9mm. Yes, Luger, followed closely by the Beretta 92FS.

For 9mm, I prefer a USPc for cocked and locked carry.

9mm is my prefered carry caliber.  I primarly carry either a Glock 19 or 26 as a CCW piece with a SMith 908 getting added into the mix this summer. Far as rounds go, I currently use 147gr Hydrashoks as a carry load, but am transitioning over to 147gr Rangers.

Gock 26 in a C-Tac IWB for summer CCW,
Glock 30 soon to be in a C-Tac IWB for winter CCW,
HK USP Tac in a Safariland 5186 belt holster for range fun...

Can't stand 1911's....

For 9mm I like:

G34 - target/competition
G17 - defense (occasionally I still use it in IDPA)

But I also really like SIG, CZ, Kahr and Beretta.  5" 1911s in 9mm are also a pleasure to shoot.

CZ-75

. . .because it feels alot like a 1911/2011

I carry a S&W 3913.

For targets or non-concealed use, it's usually the Beretta 92.

Since both have the same type controls, it's no biggie for me.

A nice shooting 9mm is the 1911-type.  All the things people love about a 1911, with cheap ammo and no recoil.  Yeah, you might as well carry it in .45, but for just plinking, targets, etc, the 9mm version is one that's overlooked frequently.

BHP.  I would love to carry BHP in summer, but I sweat a lot.  So I got a USPc to have same manual of arms and beat it in the summer.

What happened to my G19 with night sights?  Well, she found a nice home

My 9mm pistols revolve around Hi Power.  Hi Power is the sun, and other 9mms revolve around it.

I like the BHP/CZ-75 for general use, perfect natural point of aim and accuracy.  The most accurate 9mm I ever owned was a S&W model 39-2.

P229
XD9 Service
XD9 Compact

All for CCW
229 and Service for target.  I can't hit much past 50yds with the Compact.
